We enjoyed an evening pontoon cruise tonight and had 8 loons meet up and swim into the bay next to us diving for minnows. We stopped and quietly sat watching them and then they gave us this magnificent show!

A Smallmouth Bass has a spawn bed at the end of the dock. Neat to see the bowled out spawn bed with the rocks in the bottom. Love the crystal clear water to be able to see this!

The number of eggs per spawn bed nest typically ranges from 2,000 to sometimes 16,000. After egg laying, the male stays at the nest and protects the eggs by circulating water throughout the nest. Eggs typically hatch in 60 hours to 4-6 days depending on water temperature.

We may have a bunch of bass to catch off the dock this summer!

Spectacular Northen Lights at Big Sand Lake! Truly an amazing sight to see! It was breathtaking to watch all the colors appear and dance in the sky!

Grouse Road is living up to its namesake! Ruffed grouse on the driveway tonight and saw this guy all fanned out and puffed up! Spring is mating season for the grouse. During courtship, ruffed grouse display banded fan-shaped tails. Males also have a concealed neck ruff (hence the name "ruffed grouse") that they display during courtship.

Put the dock in tonight and launched the pontoon! It snowed yesterday but we are ready for summer today! A beautiful sunset to end the day!

The calm before the big snowstorm at the cabin! 🌨Winter Storm Warning starting tomorrow with a forecast of 5 to 17 inches of snow with gusty winds! ⚠️ Trumpeter Swans swimming with the ice covered lake in the background. 🦢Couldn’t resist taking the waterbike for a ride on the lake even though there is still ice on the lake! 🚲 Cool ice formation on the shore! ❄️

This winter has been very unseasonably warm! We have had very little snow at the cabin. Normally the snow would be at least knee deep in the back yard. The deer have free reign with no snow obstacles. We had our first chipmunk sighting today! As much as we love winter, we are anxious for spring and summer to spend some time on the lake!

Love watching the deer that visit. 🦌 Today it is a bitterly cold -2 degrees with a forecasted -15 degrees tonight. ❄️

Good morning from Big Sand Lake! It is a crisp 21 degrees this morning with a beautiful painted horizon! The lake has a skim of ice over the top today for as far as you can see. With cooler temps in the forecast during the evenings, the lake will be making more ice!

Experienced another spectacular moonrise last night over Big Sand Lake! The moonshine on the water was glistening in the open water!

Big Sand Lake is wide open with water yet. Very unusual for this time of year. Normally the lake is completely frozen by now. These 8 Trumpeter Swans graced us with their presence yesterday along the shoreline. Always a joy to watch!
