Julia-Ann Square Historic District --the largest and oldest historic district in the state of West Virginia.

Once a month we will be highlighting a random house in the district. Be sure to pick up a copy of the Walking Tour guide in our welcome center!

Julia-Ann Sq is the essence of the middle and upper-class during the boom of the oil and gas industry in Parkersburg. Homeowners were compromised of leaders from the community including bankers, businessmen, professionals and political figures who had the financial means to construct the best houses of the time. Comprised of approximately 126 homes, the district’s structures are in the Second Empire, 19 century eclectic and Queen Ann styles dating from c. 1850 to 1910.

Clutch Collective captures the mighty Ohio in early winter. Running nearly 1,000 miles (yes, 1,000 miles!) the Ohio was the "superhighway" for Native Americans hundreds/thousands of years ago. The Panhandle Archaic Village sat just above the confluence of the Little Kanawha and Ohio Rivers, over 2,000 years ago.

My favorite of Clutch Collective's winter photos. This train trestle was the longest in the world (2.1 miles) at the time of its construction (1871) by the B&O Railroad. It runs between 5h and 6th street in Parkersburg.

Stunning winter photos of Parkersburg on display at Clutch Collective's FB page. Point Park was previously Port Parkersburg, a key destination on the Ohio/Little Kanawha rivers. Imagine more than 100 years ago, flat boats pulling into port to load/unload goods, lumber, and oil. Ferrys took people back and forth to Belpre, boats sailed passengers down to Cincinatti and up to Wheeling and points east.

Clutch Collective's photo of the entrance to Point Park on a wintry day. Before this floodwall was in place, Point Park was a vibrant port along the Ohio River - Port Parkersburg, shipping goods, lumber, and oil up the Little Kanawha to be sent up/down the Ohio River.
