It's all related, Emissions, Global Warming, Fires and Legislation.

Switching from a gas stove to an induction stove can significantly reduce indoor emissions and lower your overall carbon footprint. A study (https://www.publichealth.columbia.edu/news/switching-gas-electric-stoves-cuts-indoor-air-pollution) by Columbia University found a 56% reduction in nitrogen dioxide concentrations. Carbon dioxide emissions are also reduced. Gas stoves can leak methane, a potent greenhouse gas, even when not in use. And what's great abut these stove tops is that they plug into your 110 outlet and are portable! Induction stoves also offer higher efficiency than gas and electric stoves.

We continued to give out sustainable relief bags from our suppliers to our customers who lost their homes or were displaced by the fires. The bags really brought smiles to everyone's faces! Thanks to No Tox Life, Dip, SuperBee, Tierra Bella, Robins Creations and Break Free From Plastic for their contributions .

We also dropped off individual bags to employees in the fire department who lost their homes and gave boxes of toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap, and Tierra Bella Eco Floss and Fire Relief Aromatherapy Inhalers from Robin's Creations to Fire Station 34.

California's need affordable rates!

Energy Affordability & Justice Bills. There are about 200 bills focused on the fires and energy infrastructure. Sign to support SB 500 & SB 332 and oppose AB 942 and SB 256 by April 14. (Note: You can keep signing after it just won't make the first committee hearing). Also contact your legislator or submit a letter to oppose SB 540.

SB 332 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260SB332) (Wahab). This bill focuses on capping IOU rates and reducing ratepayers contributions to the wildfire funds. It also prohibits shut-off for vulnerable ratepayers. Sign here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYHCWLgWjX5_26PtptI5xmCSGUH8mVmwPIo1iS03j5PhlX4w/viewform) to support SB 332. Read more here. (https://sd10.senate.ca.gov/news/state-senator-dr-aisha-wahab-introduces-investor-owned-utility-accountability-act)

Sb 500 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260SB500) (Stern). This bill will reduce rate payer's costs by implementing performance based metrics that focus the utilities on building lower cost options including virtual power plants, microgrids, and local renewable projects. Add your name here. (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOi59AkMsOoSYtZ4tm0BAhFIKOeikYbwcoV_OG-glg0Bp4Tw/viewform?usp=sharing) Read more here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wKyxlGSQrTdoxfj21dzPeTZn_iu-R5Ti/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=112200745217088752835&rtpof=true&sd=true) .

California residents are paying record high electricity bills while IOUs are making record profits. PG&E had six rate hikes approved by the CPUC in 2024 alone. the IOU’s profits per kilowatt hour are now at unprecedented levels — 35% higher than just two years ago. Edison reported $1.6 billion in income last year; SDG&E $891 million and PG&E $2.4 billion.

Please sign onto these bills to show your opposition by April 14!

AB-942 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260AB942) (Calderon) would sunset all ratepayer Net Energy Metering 1& 2 contracts after 10 years in order to charge solar customers more money by reducing their payment for the energy they produce. Sign in opposition here (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwag9LzP54UKwwgiVERAt5CJv-UMzok9Gzchf8TZGBWwieKA/viewform) and here. (https://solarrights.org/dontbreakthecontract-action/)

SB 256 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260SB256) (Perez)This bill advocates for undergrounding to mitigate wildfire risks but increases rates for residents. This bill fails to present least cost options for wildfire mitigations and fails to identify ways to reduce rate-payers costs. Sign opposition letter here. (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScD3XEnL_e4Pqc8qqOZ6zFTQhxuqds5pjmeu3Arjkba3K6-nQ/viewform?usp=sharing)

SB 540 (https://legiscan.com/CA/text/SB540/id/3134936) allows need to be opposed. It will place California's Grid in a Delaware corporation with about 10 other Western states for energy buying power. There's a debate whether we can get our grid back if something goes wrong and concern with giving our grid up during the current administration. Also many think we can create enough energy to meet our demand. Call your Senator and Assembly member (https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/) to vote no on SB 540 or submit (https://calegislation.lc.ca.gov/Advocates/) a letter of opposition to the portal by April 15 at noon.

The truth about toothpaste tubes

In the United States, an estimated 300 million toothpaste tubes end up in landfills each year.

These tubes can take up to 500 years to decompose, contributing to plastic pollution, microplastic and nanoplastic release into the environment.

Toothpaste tubes are primarily made of plastic and aluminum, which makes them difficult to recycle and facilities don't recycle them.

Using sustainably packaged toothpaste and toothpaste tablets is better for the environment!

Huppy Toothpaste Tablets made with Strawberry are a toothpaste alternative that are great for kids and adults alike. Our pouches are intended to refill your reusable container and are home compostable & made from paper.

Activated charcoal has quickly grown to become the hottest ingredient in oral care in recent years, notably for its highly effective teeth whitening effects. It works like a powerful magnet for Plaque, Bacteria and Tannins that may stain your teeth.
The Peppermint essential oil in this formula makes for the perfect refreshing brushing experience.

Key features
•100 tabs or 150 tabs
•Very easy to use and perfect for kids
•Travel friendly
•Spearmint flavored
•100% vegan and cruelty free
•Talc free
•Fluoride free
•Sugar free
•Palm oil free
Pop a tab in your mouth and chew until it forms a foaming paste (although it won’t foam as much as “normal” toothpaste – this is nothing to worry about!). Brush with a wet toothbrush as usual.

Huppy Toothpaste Tablets are the toothpaste alternative you should need to know about. Not only does our award-winning tablet toothpaste whiten enamel, fight plaque, and freshen breath, but it’s also produced with zero plastic waste. What’s not to love?
OUR INGREDIENTS
Our vegan toothpaste tabs are made with clean, sustainable ingredients like peppermint oil, coconut oil, aloe vera extract, and xylitol. To remineralize tooth enamel and fight sensitivity, we’ve also included nano-hydroxyapatite (NHA), a non-toxic fluoride alternative.

Rebuilding after the Fires

We enjoyed hosting a community dinner for some of our customers who lost their homes in the Eaton Fire. It was a great evening filled with great conversation, chili and cornbread. The room was buzzing with constant chatter on a range of topics!

We gave out sustainable relief packages from our vendors valued at over $90 for each gift. Each family got to choose their favorite patterned wax bag (https://www.myzerowastestore.com/product/wax-food-bags/156?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true) from Super Bee which contained EcoFloss (https://www.myzerowastestore.com/product/dental-floss-picks-biodegradable-tierrabella/908?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true) , a shampoo bar from DIP (https://www.myzerowastestore.com/product/dip-color-safe-shampoo-bar-4-oz-/703?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true) , a conditioner bar from No Tox Life (https://www.myzerowastestore.com/product/solidsilk-delicate-detangling-conditioner-bar-no-tox-life/174?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=true) and the Fatigue Fighter Aromatherapy Inhaler (https://www.byrobincreations.com/products/fatigue-fighter-aromatherapy-inhaler?_pos=4&_sid=1cfe3ecc9&_ss=r) by Robins Creations. Each family also got a $20 credit to buy a sustainable item from the store. Most chose a simple silicone bowl with a lid. As I have said, they need everything!

We are inviting customers who didn't lose their homes but are displaced from their homes for appetizers and gifts March 16th, 5:30 to 7. Email us at [email protected] if you are interested in attending.

We are so grateful to our suppliers for their donations. 🙏 We hope to influence more of our community to refill their homes with non-plastic products.

Senator Perez has been a great advocate for our community. 🥳👏📣🔥 She introduced legislation (SB 256) to underground utility wires and use non-wire alternatives (microgrids) to reduce wildfire risk.

Her team is actively working on the language for SB 256 (https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260SB256) to make utilities responsible for managing their operations and reducing wildfires.

We had a wonderful dinner at the store last night for some of our customers impacted by the Eaton Fire. Chili, cornbread, community and conversation, it was great. And our vendors made the evening more special by providing sustainable supplies to each family, valued at over $90 not including the $20 credit to buy something sustainable❣️I would like to thank and who provided a grant to us to give each of the 42 recipients a 20 credit to buy plastic free items. Many bought a reusable bowl. 🙏 we were glad to host and look forward to our next round of gift giving for our customers who were displaced and our firefighters who lost their homes. 😭 we can’t thank our vendors enough for these supplies. It’s going to take time to rebuild our community and to bring everyone home. ❤️ @
