Meet our new baby opossum, Gizmo! Gizmo came to us a little over a week ago in very bad shape. He was emaciated and anemic from being completely covered in fleas and left on his own at too young of an age. Luckily someone found him and got him to us just in time. He’s been recovering wonderfully, is gaining weight, and is finally getting pink back in his nose and toes. Gizmo will serve as an animal ambassador for his species and teach everyone about the importance of opossums.

An update on our sweet Boxer: After getting another steroid injection to boost his appetite and help with his breathing, Boxer is feeling a little better today. He is being brought into our air conditioned office space every day during the day to escape the heat and then gets to go home to be with his best friend Thunder at night. We know from last time that this will be a long uphill battle, but are optimistic that he will pull through again.

We need your help. Boxer needs your help. We need your donations so we can keep bringing Boxer to the vet and continue giving him the care he deserves. And we all know Boxer deserves the best. Please donate through our website www.natureofwildworks.org/donate

Mondays certainly call for a little bit of Murray! that Murray’s teeth grow 1/16 of an inch every week? Because of this he needs to be provided with lots of things to chew so they don’t get too long. Did you also know that you can donate things to Murray from our Amazon wishlist? He has quite a few chew toys as well as rodent blocks that he would love to receive in the mail! Who doesn’t love to receive presents in the mail? https://smile.amazon.com/hz/charitylist/ls/2RVR8YSSHRCM/ref=smi_ext_lnk_lcl_cl

Happy from Boxer and Thunder Kitty. Boxer has been going through another bad phase of his histoplasmosis, but with the help of his caretakers and best friend Thunder, we believe he will pull through again. Thunder Kitty does his best in taking care of Boxer by providing snuggles and kisses whenever needed, but he would like to ask for your help too. Boxer has had multiple vet visits in the past few weeks and is needing to go in for weekly injections. Please help this beautiful friendship continue by going to our website www.natureofwildworks.org and donating to Boxer’s recovery.

Just a cute video of Murray munching on a peanut to help you get through your ☺️ Murray is growing fast! Since groundhogs go through a true hibernation during the winter, they use the summer months to pack on the pounds to get them through their hibernation where their respiratory rate will go as low as two breaths a minute and their heartbeat goes from 80 beats per minute to 5 beats per minute.

Whoever last used this towel must have been really stinky and Spring is loving it 😂 : foxes have scent glands around their chin and jaw which they use to communicate to other animals that they have been there. They will also roll in stinky scents to try and mask their own scent. Which behavior do you think Spring is demonstrating here?

A little cool down with Cliff! Sound on to hear his ruff tongue work at removing all the yummy baby food from his popsicle. : the tiny spines on a cat’s tongue known as papillae, are made of keratin just like humans’ finger nails.

The Wildworks business of ferrets here for reminding everyone to keep hydrated in the summer heat. Did you know a group of ferrets is called a business? We think it should be funny business, no way are ferrets serious enough to join corporate. Other about ferret names include: a male is referred to as a “hob,” while a female is called a “jill.” Other terms for ferrets would be “sprite” for a fixed female & “gib” or “hoblet” refers to a fixed male.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood! Murray the Groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, enjoyed chewing on a chew stick just like the ones sold at the pet store for hamsters & guinea pigs. These chew sticks are an important part of Murray’s care, as a rodent he has ever growing teeth. Therefore he needs to chew tough items to keep his teeth at a healthy length.
