The little cabin was made by Sheila's grandfather, many years ago. We added a metal roof and solar lighting to it, and then were inspired to set it up as a "Gatehouse" on the entrance pathway to the Magical Treehouse. It was a fun little project, and of course we just HAD to find a way to build a spiral staircase to "access" it. Now we just need to find a few tiny elves to be the gatekeepers!

We are not at "peak color" yet, not even close, but we'll get there soon. I thought you all might enjoy this treat. The green roof is the main lodge and our office. The color is in our "sugarbush" where we harvest maple syrup from our well loved trees each spring. Yummy.
If you want to identify what you are seeing, red is red maple, yellow is primarily sugar maple and a smattering of black cherry and yellow birch. Green is our pine and spruce plantation, and you see the bog to the southeast. Those who have visited the "Eldest Pine" might be able to pick it out once you get your bearings.

We (Sheila and Bob) have been away for a week mountain biking in Quebec and Vermont. It's our practice, when we get home from a trip, to walk the land a bit to reconnect and say howdy to the trees and topography. We caught the light just right, don't ya think?

Guests at the base often wonder how we get so much done on the property. Bob always points to 44 years of effort, but we've decided to tell the truth. Have we been violating Dog Labor Laws?

As I was getting ready to share that we have an unexpected and rare vacancy in one of our cabins, I ran across the before and after photos of when we did a full kitchen remodel a few years back. What a difference, eh?

Plan accordingly. Looks like it would be wise to stay front country this weekend.

🚨 Adirondack Advisory 🚨

A Flood Watch is in effect beginning Friday (8/9) morning with 2-4 inches of rain forecast for the region. Heavy rainfall will lead to backcountry flooding of streams, rivers, and ponds. Any water crossings will be impassable and conditions will be conducive to hypothermia.

High water conditions and flooding will last throughout the weekend creating very muddy and slippery trails. Keep yourself, our Forest Rangers, and our first responders safe—avoid traveling into the backcountry this weekend.

Head to our updated Adirondack Backcountry Info pages for more: https://on.ny.gov/adkbackcountry.
