Come visit the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, spanning 39,650 acres, is Earth’s largest protected tallgrass prairie. Facing urban sprawl and cropland conversion, it now represents less than 4% of its original vastness across 14 states. Since 1989, The Nature Conservancy in Oklahoma has restored it with 2,500 free-ranging bison and a “patch-burn” model. The preserve, rich in biodiversity with 700 plants, 300 birds, and 80 mammals, offers wildlife watching and scenic views through a 15-mile bison driving loop and designated trails.
