On This Day in History: October 26, 1881
The “Gunfight at the OK Corral” took place in Tombstone, Arizona. This famous gunfight was between the lawmen Earp brothers (Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan) with Doc Holiday and members of the Ike Clanton Gang (Billy Clanton, Frank and Tom McLaury) who were called The Cowboys. The Cowboys were outlaws associated with cattle rustling and robbery acts throughout the area. The actual gunfight occurred at about 3:00pm and is believed to have lasted only 30 seconds. Clanton and the McLaury brothers were killed while Virgil and Morgan Earp were injured, as was Holliday. Wyatt Earp was the only one who walked away unscathed. The Cowboys swore revenge and Virgil Earp was maimed on December 28, 1881 in an assassination attempt by the outlaws and Morgan was assassinated three months later. Wyatt Earp, now a Deputy U.S. Marshal, began what is known as the “Earp Vendetta Ride” where he sought revenge and retributions against the outlaw group.

The home is comfortable, beautifully decorated and filled with plenty of books about the Indian history and surrounding area. We enjoyed walking around the property and sitting on the porch watching the beautiful sunrises , sunsets and the birds. There was a meteor shower the week we were there so we saw dozens of meteors during our stay. There is so much to see in the area- amazing hiking trails and numerous small towns to visit. We were there for 4 days but wish we could stay for longer.

“A total blast staying at Hummingbird Ranch Arizona”
1 month in the desert was exactly what we needed at this beautiful Birding Ranch in SE Arizona. Kartchner Caverns was so much fun to visit. We also visited Bisbee, Tombstone, Willcox and Benson. Horseback riding at The Double R Ranch was the icing on the cake :). Can't wait to return in August. Thank you Steve for a great place to relax. Billions of stars at night too!~~

Will Definitely Return!Thank you Renee and Steve for your beautiful Hummingbird Ranch. It was spotless clean and fully stocked. Spacious with two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. As soon as we were welcomed by Cali the cat we knew this was the place for us! We love the Pearce/Sunsites area with all of the birding, hiking and beautiful scenery nestled between the Dragoon Mountains and Chiricahua National Monument. We will definitely return! Our only suggestion is it would be nice to have a photograph of you both somewhere on the premises. Happy 2023 New Year!
