“Under 40lbs must be secured by an adult”
Are you ready to Rumble? 1201am tonite people. Moi Season 2024/ 2025. Let the reels sing loudly!
1 hour sunset on the north shore in 60 seconds.
Pouring liquid sunshine. Blue skies over Diamond Head Crater.
Must have fishing accessory. I see so many trophy fish lost right before landing. Make sure you plan your fish fight before the strike and if you are fishing on a ledge have a net with an extension handle. Too many “boost um blunders”
Mahalo Santa for the gift of Oama. Oama season is our holiday season at @barefootadventureshi
Earlier this year in Hokkaido. When my hotel is near a fish market I skip the hotel breakfast and head out to enjoy fresh seafood at the market. I always enjoy talking with the locals.
The agony of defeat. I always keep one line in the water until the moment I leave the beach. I threw out a live talapia and started loading up gear to go home. I was walking back to reel in this pole and the fish hit. Estimated to be 3 to 5 pounds. I made the mistake of thinking I was having this guy for lunch before I had the fish in the net.
Time to escape with @barefootadventureshi
Bruce Lee. The greatest fighter, philosopher and motivator of all time. July 20, 1973 the world said farewell to the Dragon. Last year I was in Seattle so of course I had to pay respect. I met the guy in the video that day at the cemetery. He was named after Bruce and was there just like me to take a few moments to honor the legend. “ Be water my friend”
Last year I made this video to warn visitors about this hazard. Yesterday another car drove into the harbor. Blame goes to the driver but caution poles could be installed. I would hate to see a child trapped in a car seat while the car sinks to the bottom. I always use google earth when planning road trips so I can see the surrounding area. @barefootadventureshi always playing it safe.
Best bait for oama? Shrimp, opae, aku belly, aku eggs or something else?
Big Boy Burritos at the Nite Market. @village.events.hawaii always brining in the best vendors like @jeramiahs.island.fusion . Lots of parking, family friendly and ono grindz. Hope to see you there next week.
Heat wave in Japan and Vegas. Stay home and enjoy the snow. Cool off with. @barefootadventureshi
Chinatown foodie adventure. Sourdough poke bowl?
Getting ready for the long holiday weekend. Fishing and foodie adventures with our guests. This morning picking up bait and snacks for our guests. Happy 4th to all. Be safe and be happy.
June moi hunt? Earlier this week I took a client fishing for moi. He had never caught a moi before and really wanted to catch one and learn how to fish for the elusive fish. I told him he would have to release all the moi caught as it was closed season. He quickly agreed to release all moi and then I told him how difficult it will be to release 2 or 3 nice size fish. He did not think he would actually catch anything so any release regrets were not his concern. The moon was big and the tide was plus 2 feet right after sunset so I knew the bite would be on. 745pm the first fish hit and it was a toau. 8pm the first moi was landed and it was small so releasing it was easy. 5 minutes later moi number 2 hits and this one is just over a pound but to my client it felt like 10lbs. A few minutes later he reels in a double. 2 nice moi on the double hook set up. He ended up landing 6 moi and losing 1 big hit which I think was a nenue by the way it screamed the drag. The client took home zero moi but was happier being able to release all the fish and learn techniques new to him. I did not want him to go home without a moi so I told him he would get one of my many moi prints as his trophy. Now he can look at the print and replay the moi fights again and again. Lessons from the Moi Master.
There is a must see show on PBS “Hope in the Water” The first episode last week featured this fish pond as the community tries to restore it. A few years ago kids from around the world were in Hawaii and one of their stops was at the pond to help clear out jellyfish and limu. @keithueharaphotography was there to film that day. Not far from this pond is another pond that I worked at 30 years ago. Every weekend I was there to remove predators so the mullet could reproduce. Fish like baracuda, ulua and paopao had to be removed to protect to food fish. A dream job of any fisherman to catch fish like this every weekend.
Throwback Thursday. October 2022. Japan had been open to travel for tourists for just a few months. Japan had just dropped the Visa requirement. Immigration entering Japan was crazy. QR codes and forms on your phone were required to enter. On plane you are told your phone must be turned off in the terminal but you need it on and wifi to get thru customs and immigration. After getting out of the terminal it was the best trip ever. All the famous sites were not crowded and no tourists around. Only Japanese residents were visiting the venues. One year later it was a different story and now it is overcrowded with tourists. Now I try to travel thru the countryside. With the Yen exchange rate only getting better for us it will only get worse.
Our favorite burgers from around the world. From Hokkaido to New York and many spots between. My favorite is the “Humuhumu” which I make myself.
