I didn't know my camera had this video/picture setting. Check out what I captured of this otter. ππ
This is so exciting!!
Limpkin were first observed in Louisiana in 2017. We finally saw our first one in the swamp this year!!!
About 2 weeks ago, one showed up and seemed to be hanging around. I suspected there was more then one and confirmed there were 3 yesterday. Today, we had even more!! At least a dozen!
They eat invasive apple snails which is so cool! Luckily, we don't have the snails where we take the tours so hopefully these birds keep it that way.
Here is one eating a mussel! π€©
What a fun morning! We had 23 Pearl River High School Football players come out to enjoy the swamp.
Their coach surprised them. They thought they were going to practice. π.
Thanks for coming out guys, it was a blast!
Our guest today found this turtle bobbing up in down in the water. At first we thought it was eating a fish, then I thought it was fish eating a dead turtle.
Upon closer inspection I noticed it was indeed alive. I then noticed it was covered in leaches.
Brought it home to get it all free of the leech and noticed it's missing most of its back leg. Poor thing.
Once I can make sure I've gotten all the leeches off I will return it to the river.
We've named it John after our guest who found it. π We hope it has a better chance of steering clear of those pesky leech after this.
Raining in the swamp.π€©
Just a little something about turtles a friend made. ππ
Playing in "quick sand" πππ. Today was a blast!
This is crazy!!! Y'all have to come see this.
The flooding is finally going down and we get to see what's been happening underneath us.
The river has deposited a ton of fresh sand in the swamp!!
We don't normally have beaches in swamps!
Jess here. This didn't happen on one of our tours, but it happened where we take our guest.
Mike and I went out with my parents to harvest Mayhaws. (A berry we make jelly from)
My dad spotted this bird floating in the water. Of course, we had to rescue it and was surprised to see that it was a baby owl that had likely fallen out of its nest.
(Mike's comment in the video telling me to secure the weapon is due to when I saved an Egret from a fishing line. The sucker speared me in the hand with its beak and did some gnarly damage.)ππ
Poor little owl probably didn't have much longer to live so we were super grateful to happen to be there at the right time to save it!
We got it home, warmed it up and the next day the little baby was full of life and looking like the fluffy little owl it should be!
It is on it's way to the wildlife sanctuary today! ππ¦π
Lizard battle
Nature at its realest π€£ sound on! π
Mike is making us super educational videos about species you can find in the Honey Island Swamp!!
What do you think?πππ
