Switzerland is a small mountainous country located in central Europe. This landlocked country is about the size of New Jersey and is between France and Italy. It is also bordered by Austria, Germany, and Liechtenstein.

Most of the population lives in the plateau which is between the high Alps in the south and the Jura mountains in the north. The mountainous area in the south is sparsely populated

The Swiss Alps are high, snow-covered mountains most of which are over 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). The most famous peak is the Matterhorn which is 14,692 feet (4,478 meters) tall, but the highest peak is Dufourspitze at 15,203 feet (4,634 meters).
Scientists are concerned that glaciers in the Swiss Alps have lost a lot of ice coverage in the past 40 years. This may be related to global climate change. Rapid melting of the glaciers could cause flooding to the villages below.
Most animals in Switzerland live in the mountains. The ibex, a species of mountain goat, was hunted to near extinction in the early 1800s. The species has since been reintroduced and more than 15,000 ibex now live in the Swiss Alps. Hikers may also encounter chamois, another goatlike animal, and marmots. The forests of Switzerland are also home to deer, rabbits, foxes, badgers, squirrels, and many bird species.
Switzerland is one of the world’s wealthiest countries. The Swiss are well known for their watches and clocks.
There is not a single official language in Switzerland. People speak one of several languages, including Swiss German, French, and Italian.

Great example of a medieval village with many preserved architectural elements that can be experienced on foot without the bustle of vehicle traffic. Of particular interest is the parish church St. Tecla and Villa Pliniana.
The lakeside town of Torno is situated within the Province of Como in Lombardy and has a population of around 1,000. Torno's centrepiece is the little port area known as the Porticciolo whose brightly-coloured buildings and cafes overlook Lake Como.

The lakeside town of Torno is situated within the Province of Como in Lombardy and has a population of around 1,000. Torno's centrepiece is the little port area known as the Porticciolo whose brightly-coloured buildings and cafes overlook Lake Como.

It stands at an elevation of 225 metres above sea level and has its own ferry imbarcadero linking it to other towns around the lake.

The centre of the village is pedestrianised with a small car park situated just off the main road. From the car park, it's a 5 minute walk down to the Porticciolo, the beautiful port which takes the main focus. Before walking down to the Porticciolo however, it's worth taking a few steps in the opposite direction where the Romanesque bell tower of the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista del Chiodo can be found.

There are in fact two bell towers in Torno, the second of which forms part of the Chiesa di Santa Tecla in the Porticciolo, with the church itself dating back to the twelfth century. It's possible to walk the whole way around the port with a tree-lined walkway at the edge of the lake and colourful flowers blooming during the summer months. In one corner of the Porticciolo there's a bar restaurant called Bar Italia which is the perfect place to stop and admire the views for a while.

Situated on the eastern shore of the lower western spur of Lake Como, Torno is just a 15 minute drive from Como itself which can also be reached using the lake's ferry network. Across on the other side of the lake, one of the most important and attractive towns is Cernobbio, while just about the most popular town on Lake Como, Bellagio, is located 18 kilometres to the north west and best reached by ferry.

​Torno is included in the list of Bandiera Arancione (Orange Flag) towns, of which there are eleven in the Lombardy region. One of those other ten can also be found on Lake Como: the town of Bellano which lies on the eastern shore and further to the north.

A little history of the Milan Cathedral
The construction of the Duomo of Milan began in 1386 and ended in 1965, it took place in the same location where the St. Ambrose basilica was located since the 5th century to which in the year 836 the Basilica of St. Tecla was added and destroyed by a fire in 1075.Known for being a great example of the northern Gothic style in Italy, its spires and towers truly dominate Piazza del Duomo. The exterior of the Duomo Milan is an upwardly thrusting collection of elongated statues, pinnacles, and flying abutments.
