#tbt to just a month ago when I was touring the beautiful region of #piedmont with an awesome group of UB alumni. We spent 8 fantastic days together, starting in the #langhe area where we tasted delicious wines and foods (among which truffle 😊), then in #turin, the first capital of italy, perfect for history and shopping, to end in the brea taking scenery of #lakemaggiore where to relax and unwind. It was definitely one of the best itineraries I’ve ever created and one of the best groups I’ve ever traveled with. Thank you, grazie mille to my two partners in crime, AnnaMarie and Jodi, for always choosing and trusting #fantasticaitalia with their UB Italian adventures!

Buon Ferragosto 🍉 Ferragosto, celebrated on August 15th, is the most important Italian Summer Holiday, when (almost) everybody is in vacation. The name comes from the Latin Feriae Augusti (the festivals of the Emperor Augustus) introduced back in 18 BC, and part of the longer Augustali period – intended to be a period of rest after months of hard labour. In Roman times, the celebrations included horse races across the Empire and this ancient tradition is still alive today in the Palio dell’Assunta, which usually takes place on August 16th in Siena. Indeed, the name "Palio" comes from the pallium, a piece of precious fabric which was the prize given to winners of the horse races in Ancient Rome. Today, the holiday combines both its ancient Roman roots and its Catholic meaning (Assumption Day), and in Italy it represents the peak of the Summer and in beach located is celebrated with fireworks!
