We've seen people unfamiliar with the area (𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐠, 𝐏𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞 (𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐍) making speculative comments, and passing unverified info as facts with posts and comments in local travel groups. This led to a lot of confusion and frustration so hopefully, this will provide some clarity. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 of Sevier County are open for business. ** We are not a news agency, just a small mom-and-pop business. • Dollywood is 𝐧𝐨𝐭 flooded
• Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are 𝐧𝐨𝐭 destroyed (some FAKE AI-generated pix of the flooded Gburg circulating on social media).
• The Little Pigeon River that runs through Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg didn’t overflow its banks.
• An area in northern Sevierville (Sevier Co) had minor flooding from the Douglas Dam water release which has since subsided and residents were able to return.
• The 𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 affected area to Sevier County is Cocke County TN which is east of Sevier County and is around Newport, TN (Cocke Co.) which was flooded from a dam overflowing upstream.
• Exit #407 on I-40 is open and there are no issues accessing that exit from either direction.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝:
The Smokies in both TN and NC had been saturated by rains for days leading up to the remnants of Helene making their way north Helene brought more rains, on top of swollen rivers on the NC side of the Smokies. The NC side of the Smokies took most of the wind and water, and Asheville, NC, and surrounding mountain communities sustained significant, and in many places, catastrophic damage.

Great example of why not to leave ANY food or soft drinks in your car while in the Smoky Mountains. The bears will find it.

Video of the bears isn't great but you can see just how close they were. They seemed just as curious about us as we were of them.

Today's tour was a private group and we went to Cades Cove where we got to encounter some bears. It was a momma and her two cubs and they were right next to the bus so we got some great photos. Unfortunately I was to busy talking to take any but the others were kind enough to share.

It's Ramp season again!!! To the mountain folks of east Tennessee and western North Carolina there's no better leafy green than the wild ramp. This tender and delicious leafy veggie grows wild in the mountains and has a flavor unlike anything else on earth. It will make your breath smell like death for a while but it's all worth it to get a taste of this amazing plant. This here is like hillbilly ambrosia. My favorite recipe is ramps and fried taters ... boy am I excited to get some and cook me up a good mess.
