What great news from the Chipley Historical Center!

🚂 Exciting News for the Chipley Historical Center!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Chipley Historical Center has been awarded a $13,000 grant from Norfolk Southern Corporation to restore our beloved Southern Railway caboose!

This bright red caboose, built in 1949 and donated to us in 1989, is a cherished landmark and a nod to our town’s rich railroad history. Thanks to this generous funding, the caboose will soon undergo much-needed structural repairs and a fresh coat of vibrant red paint. 🎨

The restoration, led by Joe Messier of Oster Construction Specialties Inc., will begin later this month and is expected to take about six weeks.

“I’m so happy to finally show our caboose a little love,” said CHC Chair Lou Brackett. “It attracts so many visitors to our corner of Pine Mountain and will soon shine as bright as ever!”

This grant is part of Norfolk Southern’s Thriving Communities Grant Program, which supports initiatives that promote vibrant community life.

Get ready to make unforgettable memories with your family at Historic Pine Mountain’s Christmas Parade and Festival on Saturday, December 7. Beginning at 11 a.m. this year’s parade route is extended from Chipley Street down to Askew Park, returning to downtown via Gardenview. The Pine Mountain Citizen of the Year will be the 2024 Grand Marshal. Showcasing historic Pine Mountain’s unique shops and cafes, all beautifully decorated for the season, you’re invited to enjoy our Christmas Festival on Broad Street until 3 PM. Featuring activities and crafts for children, the Peach State Corvette Club Cruise-In, visits with Santa, numerous local community organizations, and a Chili Cook Off Contest & Cornbread Challenge, this will be an afternoon of merry holiday fun!

TONITE: LIGHT UP PINE MOUNTAIN: A COMMUNITY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION

We invite you to experience holiday magic with the annual "Light Up Pine Mountain" event, a cherished kickoff to the Christmas season, the Fantasy In Lights® at Callaway Resort & Gardens, and the holiday shopping season in downtown Pine Mountain. Media are invited to cover this festive celebration and capture the spirit of the season in Pine Mountain’s holiday traditions.

Event Highlights:
Tree Lighting Ceremony – Witness the lighting of two large Christmas trees (18-foot downtown and 14-foot midtown) along with animated LED Christmas displays.
Musical Performances – Enjoy holiday caroling by the local choirs.
Santa’s Arrival – Santa will make a grand entrance with the Pine Mountain Fire Department.
Citizen of the Year Award – Be part of the special recognition of Pine Mountain’s Citizen of the Year.
