Well ... the Bonfire gathering was fun with new friends and old joining in sharing and learning. We didn't actually get to burn the big pile due to the wind. The campfire was lovely along with the food sharing and conversation even inside around the fireplace. Thanks to all for venturing out for a Winter Afternoon of community!

Is it really 2024 already?! We're off and easing into the year of activities starting with monthly Potluck & Ponderings where we'll gather for food sharing and then break into small groups for sharing/discussion focused on a question drawn from a jar - questions we've submitted that invite us to share more deeply from the heart. An example: share a time when you most felt a sense of community and what created that feeling.

We'll gather 2nd Friday, 5:30-7:30pm here at Balsam Moon. Bring a dish to share and a question you can add to the jar (not required). Let us know if you're coming via email ([email protected]) or call us 218-587-3808. See ya when it works.

Horseshoe Lake Lovers! Ron reports that today 600 baby walleyes were incorporated into our beautiful lake. Oh boy! Baby walleyes! This is the better news…

And then the loons stopped by for a quick and very yummy snack!

Horseshoe lake lovers! Ever wonder if our turtle maternity ward results in baby turtles? I’ve never seen them hatch …

Here’s a photo from National Geographic —A baby diamondback terrapin minutes after hatching as part of our conservation work with the species in nature. Go ahead and rate the cuteness level, I expect some seriously high ratings.

Penny is plum tuckered out by her time at the lake. Swimming (briefly) boat rides fishing and playing with all the Remer’s and a new dog friend Bruno… she’s already dreaming of next year and getting home to see her friend Junie

Our Story

Do you love nature, lakes, wildlife, fishing, campfires, swimming...? If you answer yes to any or all of these, Cousins Cabins are for you. I own and operate two totally clean, close to the lake housekeeping cabins with beautiful views of the lake and sandy beach. Surrounded by pine and birch trees and a beautiful drive into the cabins from route 84 (between mile marker 6 and 7). Each cabin is close to the lake, has a private dock for guest use-- and is only steps away from the hard sand, w**d free beach. It’s perfect for young swimmers with a gentle slope and lots of “toys” including kayaks, canoe, paddle board, water trampoline and slide among others. We also have a craft/TV/yoga center for guests to use and the 130 mile Paul Bunyan bike and walking trail is close by. We'd love to share nature with you.

Give us a call to reserve your spot this summer! 303-422-1557 and/or [email protected]. Check out more photos of the property at www.cousinscabinsmn.com

...And by the way, I now have 66 (!) years experience with the area and surroundings. I spent a month in the area each summer of my childhood and going home to West Des Moines was such a drag. There is so much to do and explore at the cabins-- a week is barely enough time. Think about an extended summer vacation to fully relax and enjoy all the area has to offer.
