Morning Light. I was greeted with this awesome view yesterday morning. It was dark, very dramatic with the boiling clouds and incredible wind. I shot this with an 85mm at f1.4 for 1 second. ISO 500. Obviously before my tripod was ruined in the freak accident./djb

Chalk This Trip Up To "Don't Talk; Don't Tell!" But quite a beautiful morning with dramatic clouds being driven by 50-60mph winds which knocked over a tripod and ruined a RRS Ballhead BH-55. Thats a $350 hit. Beautiful place, which should remain "an undisclosed location, please"!/djb

Astrophotographer Dave Bell says Wyoming is one of the best places in the country for Milky Way season, which just started. His favorite photo, which took him two years to get, has the Milky Way rising out of Square Top in Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Bulls....
A specific location I visit each winter generally allows me to see wintering elk--cows and bull elk prior to dropping. A few days ago I was searching and found the seven who posed nicely on a ridgeline before wandering over the top. Then, yesterday I hit the motherload and came upon a herd of bulls numbering between 75-100. In the pano below I count 47. I have others with 55 and before I could get my gear out and set up I am sure another 25-35 went over the ridge. It was a photographers dream to see this, particularly silhouetted on a ridge.

The entire event lasted three and one-half minutes. If I had been five minutes earlier or five minutes later I would not have seen then.

They were about one-mile from my location and generally just drifting as a herd.

I shot these with a Canon R62 and a Canon 200-400 with the 1.4 extender (enabled) plus a 2x extender as well. ISO was 1600, shutter was 1/6400 and f-stop set at 11. /djb
