Cameron Board OKs First Tee Headquarters

First Tee — Sandhills has cleared the Cameron Board of Commissioners with its proposal to rezone a property and construct a community hub.

On Tuesday night, Executive Director Courtney Stiles shared the youth nonprofit’s plans with the board for the second time. First Tee bought a nearly 35-acre lot off Read Road in December for $345,000 to establish a headquarters in Moore County with a mix of indoor and outdoor space for programming.

The board unanimously approved the request to rezone the property from rural agricultural to conditional zoning after confirming details shared in February about the property layout.

Previously, First Tee shared two designs — the main difference was the location and length of the entrance road. Stiles said the plan is to construct the longer, 900-foot road, which would place the clubhouse and parking area closer to U.S. 1 rather than neighboring homes.

Golf course architect Richard Mandell designed the plans, which would include a community and office building, open field for programming or events, storage building, 28,000-square-foot putting area with complementary short game practice area, a nine-hole par-3 course and a driving range area.

About 6 acres of the campus would be left natural as a learning area for STEM components of First Tee. Around the perimeter of the site, First Tee plans to retain a natural buffer of 50 feet as well as add more plantings to reduce disturbances to neighbors.

The Village of Pinehurst to Ban Vacation Rentals!

If you enjoy staying in a vacation rental home when you are visiting Pinehurst, you will no longer be able to do so. The Mayor of Pinehurst and a few City Council Members are trying to ban all vacation rentals in the Village of Pinehurst residential neighborhoods.
