MAYBE I DO NEED TO GET A HORSE AGAIN
Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′healing′′ that occurs when we're close to horses.
According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body.
While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.
Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can feel better when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace.
In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy.

Saddle Up is so happy that Will Gathro is helping with Re*****on in his retirement. They met for the first time yesterday. Re*****on is the last of the horses Saddle Up still owns.

If you volunteered at Saddle Up we could really use you at Freedom Farm Therapy Center. We especially need horse handlers. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 and 3 classes on Saturday mornings. 10 am , 11 am and 12 pm. Please message me if interested in helping children with special needs.

Saddle Up may have closed its doors but I am pleased to announce that Freedom Farm Therapy Center is stepping in. I am working with them currently and they are a PATH Member Center ( just got certification this week). We are looking for volunteers!!! Volunteers must be 14 years of age and able to walk for 45 minutes at a time. " Come make a difference in the lives of children with special needs ".

It is with a heavy heart that I need to announce after 19 years of serving the community myself and my family have decided to hang up “ our reins” and close the chapter of Saddle Up.

It has been my distinct pleasure serving the children able and special needs of Pinellas County. If you have a favorite picture Of yourself or your child participating at saddle up over the years please post them on here. They won’t post immediately I will have to accept them and repost. I’d love to flood this page with the 19 years of memories of Saddle Up Riding Club, Inc.

Saddle Up is currently looking to fill 2 positions in our growing equine therapy program

We are looking for the right candidate to train and assist in becoming certified through PATH Int as a certified therapeutic riding instructor. Paid traning. Part time position

We also need a outgoing energetic individual to recruit and train volunteers. This position as volunteer manager is a salaried position.

Our program is growing daily with many children on our waiting list. Help us serve these children with special needs and come work at our beautiful facility.
