The cabin is located in the town of Piney Creek inside a gated community, on a 1 acre wooded lot that sits on the New River in a very private and secluded area. Enjoy all the comforts of home, with a stocked kitchen including crockpot, hot air popcorn maker, pots, pans and cooking utensils. There is a gas grill and smoker on the main floor deck. The dining table sits 6, with two more seats at the bar and an additional leaf for the table available. There is also a toaster, coffee maker and a washer and dryer. All linens are provided including extra river towels. You will need to bring all food and drink. The cabin sleeps 11, with 2 queen Sleep Number beds and two twin beds in the loft sleeping area, two full sized pull out couches and one twin pull out sleep chair. The main living room has a beautiful stone wood burning fireplace and cozy, comfortable leather seating area. The cabin has Wifi internet, cable tv, DVD players and a phone. The upstairs loft is the perfect kid hangout with old school Atari (or plug in your own gaming system) and a Blu-ray/dvd player with the tv. You can also play cards or board games on the gaming table in the loft overlooking the river or throw darts on the kid-friendly dart board. DVDs and books are also available. The lower level is perfect for the grownups with a foosball table, dart board and a corn hole game, as well as a flat screen tv with Netflix access and Blu-ray/dvd player. There is also a separate coffee maker downstairs and a second living room area, making the lower level bedroom a private sanctuary from the rest of the house. Outside you'll find two porch swings, a picnic table and plenty of places to sit on one of the three huge decks overlooking the New River, where you can watch the geese and hummingbirds, catch a glimpse of deer walking by or just sit and listen to the bubbling of two small creeks on either side of the property. When you're ready to venture out there are several common areas in the neighborhood with river access, or you can put in a canoe, kayak or tube right from the property. There is also great fishing - the New River has small mouth bass and trout. The neighborhood also has an old Indian cave where you can explore and then head down a short trail to a picnic area and bench by the river. Other things to do in the area:
There are several outfitters nearby that rent canoes, kayaks and tubes. West Jefferson is about 25 minutes down the mountain, where you can shop, take in art galleries, restaurants, farmers market, the famous Ashe County Cheese Factory, bowling, movies, or go antiquing. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 20-30 minutes away, as are the New River State Park, Stone Mountain State Park, Mount Jefferson State Park, Grayson Highlands State Park and the town of Sparta. If you like bicycling then you can check out the famous Virgina Creeper Trail (1 hr. drive), where you rent bikes or bring your own to ride up to 34 miles of beautiful trail that is downhill and great for all ages!
