Update: Rome - The Vatican: The Pope has died. RIP to The Pope.
Conclave is expected to begin in 15-20days. Conclave is the when all the cardinals of the world are called back to Rome to elect a new pope. Conclave takes place in The Sistine Chapel.

The Sistine Chapel will be sealed off in prep of Conclave, & during Conclave for as long as it is required to elect the next pope. Things are very fluid & unknown at this time. We are expecting the security closure to the public of The Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica.

We do not know when & for how long, but don't expect it for at least two weeks. Though this could change. Once Conclave starts it does not end until the new pope is elected.

As well it will become even a more moving & special time in Rome over the next weeks, with funeral, masses, Conclave, election of New pope, Celebrating the next election. In addition to it being Julibee Year.

We will keep you updated as soon as we know more. These fluid upcoming events & closures are beyond anyone's control. We will do our best at the Italy Desk to deal with any rescheduling or closure announcements by The Vatican.

We expect the Vatican Museums will remain open & be able to operate private tours of Museums, and for now Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's, but please understand if we cannot include inside The Sistine Chapel / St. Peter's, in the coming weeks due to these events..
