The Norman Rockwell Museum is calling on artists to take part in an exciting new outdoor exhibition set against the stunning backdrop of its 36-acre campus in the Berkshires. Titled Hidden Worlds and Wonders, this juried showcase of contemporary sculpture and installation art will be on view from July 12 through October 26, 2025, complementing the concurrent gallery exhibition, I SPY! Walter Wick’s Hidden Wonders.

Elizabeth (“Mum Bett”) Freeman: A Trailblazer for Freedom in Massachusetts 💡

Freeman was the first African American woman to win a freedom lawsuit in Massachusetts. Her victory in 1781 marked a pivotal moment in the fight against slavery and set a precedent for future emancipation cases in the state.

In a landmark case, she successfully sued for her freedom under the state’s 1780 constitution, which declared that all men were born free and equal. Freeman's bravery and determination not only earned her freedom but also paved the way for the eventual abolition of slavery in Massachusetts. 👏

Her legacy as a trailblazer in the fight for freedom and justice continues to inspire today. Take time to reflect on Elizabeth Freeman’s immense contributions to Massachusetts’ rich history and her role in shaping the fight for equality in America. 🌟
