Teaching my son how to locate, track, and set up shots on moving animals with a scope on a full bore rifle. He's only 10, so it will still be another year or two before I'm confident that he's emotionally ready to kill a big game animal. But, starting now on breathing exercises, and feeling the animal without the pressure of taking the shot will help him tremendously when the time comes.

Everyone has different parenting styles, it's no different with the outdoors. I'm a STRONG advocate for youth hunting, however, I don't believe children should take a life before they're emotionally accountable. I see more and more people making their 5-10 year old kids shoot big game, and I don't believe children of that age are evolved enough to TRULY grasp the magnitude of taking that life.

As a product of heavy childhood and early adulthood trauma and abuse, I am constantly accounting for the long term ramifications of every decision I make for my children. Things that may seem "fine" now, WILL manifest later. It's inevitable, it's nature. Be sure you're considering what your decisions for your children today, will mean when they're adults. If you truly understand psychology, you can predict the future behaviors of your child.

Sound on! 🔊 There are few things I enjoy more than Bugling Bull Elk on mountain timberline during the fall rut. This was a dead silent morning and the bugles echoed for miles. We got some good responses but they we're moving slowly away from us. Still gets my blood pumping hard!!

Side note: My technique isn't perfect, no one's is. In fact, if you listen closely to actual Elk, they crack notes, miss octaves, make mistakes, and have many variations in their bugling too. 🤘🤘
Can't beat the views of fall in the mountains of Colorado. Elk hunting has been slow so far, but no shortage of breathtaking views, wildlife, laughs, and memories with the people we love.
