On June 10, 2024, the MasTec Power Delivery segment held an inspiring virtual ERG Women’s Group event, attended by approximately 200 individuals from across the segment. We were privileged to have the President and Chief Executive Officer of El Paso Electric Company, Kelly Tomblin, as our keynote speaker. Kelly has more than 30 years of experience working with utilities and related industries throughout the world developing new visions and directions crucial to their success. Kelly’s vibrant address focused on essential topics and actionable strategies related to wholeness and wellness, including energy management, self-awareness, setting boundaries, and finding and maintaining true power.

Following the keynote, Ms. Tomblin led a fireside chat with DEI&B champions Julia Johnson, MasTec Board Member and President of NetCommunications, L.L.C., and Clint Pies, MasTec Power Delivery Chief People Officer. They shared personal experiences and tangible methods for achieving better work-life integration and responded to thoughtful questions and comments from attendees.

MasTec has built a strong legacy of diversity and equity and a culture of belonging that fosters innovation, pride, and success. On April 24, 2024, MasTec CEO Jose Mas and MasTec Vice President of Corporate Safety Nick DiMartino were honored for their service and leadership as past Electrical Transmission & Distribution (ET&D) Partnership committee chairs at the group’s Spring 2024 Meeting. Established in 2004, the ET&D Partnership is a formal collaboration of industry stakeholders working together to continuously improve safety and reduce the number of fatalities, injuries, and illnesses for workers in the electric line construction industry.

As Chairman of the Executive Team, Jose Mas led the company presidents and senior representatives of member organizations in reviewing progress and determining next steps. The Executive Team works as a committed group to effectively lead the Partnership, provide direction, and guide the Steering Team and three Task Teams.

Nick DiMartino served as Chairman of the Steering Team, the operational arm of the Partnership made up of safety and health leaders of member organizations. The Steering Team manages day-to-day partner operations and serves as the liaison between the Executive Team and Task Teams.

Through data collection and analysis, development of Best Practices, training, and effective communication, the Partnership maintains a resolute commitment to preventing life-threatening incidents and fostering safer work environments. While the industry fatality rate improved by 23% over the past five years, the Partnership achieved an impressive 91% reduction in fatality rates during the same period.

As members of the Electrical Transmission & Distribution Partnership, we are proud to participate in this year’s National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) from April 15 – 19. This week serves as an important reminder for all road users to use extra caution in highway work zones.

When approaching a work zone, motorists should always slow down, follow all posted signs, be alert, and remain calm. Give large vehicles extra space, and watch for pedestrians, bicyclists, and highway workers on foot.

Risky driving behavior affects more than just the driver — everyone’s lives and families are at stake. Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever.

In honor of Women in Construction week, Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day, the MasTec Power Delivery Women’s ERG held a Fireside Chat with segment leaders CFO Rebekah Le, COO David Stader, and guest speaker Susan Jin Davis. A former senior executive at Comcast Corporation, Ms. Jin Davis currently serves as Social Impact Officer for Al Roker Entertainment. She is also an advisor for sustainability, diversity, and corporate responsibility at ALO Advisors and is a faculty member of the Center for Creative Leadership in the areas of organizational leadership, women’s leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Connecting the event theme, Purpose and Authenticity – The Power Women Bring to the Construction Industry – with the 2024 International Women’s Day theme – Inspire Inclusion, Ms. Jin Davis’ powerful presentation included inspiring and diverse success stories, poems, and quotations.
