Happy Holidays! With absolute sincerity, I want to thank everyone who supported my small business this year. I don’t have a big team of builders or a social media marketing squad behind me—just a passion for building adventure vans and a whole lot of determination. Juggling all the behind-the-scenes work while diving into every aspect of a van build isn’t always easy, and I truly appreciate your patience, especially if I’ve ever left you hanging in an email thread.

Your trust in me with your van projects—whether big or small—means the world. I’m beyond grateful to help turn your vanlife dreams into reality, all while refining my own skills along the way. I genuinely love this process—it feels like my true calling. From one van traveler to another, thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. Here’s to many more adventures ahead!

This Ram Promaster came in with a DIY build from the previous owner—an array of unistrut, makeshift modifications, and more than a few fire hazards. Last week, we wrapped up “Phase 1” of its transformation, completely stripping down the old build and starting fresh. We began by adding premium sound-deadening material and 3M Thinsulate insulation to create a quieter, more comfortable base for the van.

To elevate the aesthetics, we applied marine-grade carpet to select pillars, and installed custom panels wrapped with the same material over the slider, rear doors, and C-pillar on the sliding door side, giving the interior a cleaner, more refined look. We also added new framing in the ceiling and walls to support the upcoming Birch wood panels—leaving the lower sections and ceiling corners open for Phase 2, where cabinetry will be installed.

For power, we’ve integrated a AC200L power station, paired with the D40 and a Blue Sea fuse block for a robust and reliable electrical system. Charging is handled by a plug mounted on the rear bumper, complemented by a new 200W solar panel for off-grid capability.

New LED ceiling lights were installed, along with reading lamps at the bedside for added comfort. We’re excited to see this van again for Phase 2, where we’ll be adding custom cabinetry, a multifunctional bench/bed, and much more to complete this dream van build!

This old work van deserves its retirement. All but one factory tie down bolt needed to be cut since they were so badly corroded 😢. Anti-seize woulda been cool…

The doors of this Promaster are getting new birch panels. Here at Hilltop Van we pay close attention to details, right down to the fasteners. I love to highlight fasteners, and these stainless flat Allen bolts pair really well with these aluminum dress up washers! 🤌🏼

Sometimes I have to fix the mistakes of DIY builds. These poor vans. This Fan-Tastic fan is pretty old but still works well, so my client opted to keep it in place. At the very least I wanted to remove the rusty screws, replace them with stainless, create an interior frame (since the screws were just blasted through the sheet metal like most builders like to do), and re-seal the exterior. There were layers of failing white caulking, clear silicone, weathered painters tape, but nothing sealing over the screw heads or trim. There were plenty of holes from mounting a Solar battery tender that was chaotically installed with rivnuts complimented by a jagged rusting oval shaped hole in the roof for the wiring to pass through. I sealed up the rivnut holes with bolts and sealant and fixed the hole by drilling out a proper 1” hole, painting the bare metal, and installing a cable gland. These are really cool because they’re small (fit the width of the promaster roof ridge) and come with cable hole block-off seals along with wire seals for keeping things watertight even if you’re undecided about adding solar now or later.

This is what CHATGPT said about this build:

“This build was a creative leap into uncharted territory. My client envisioned an all-encompassing bed platform that seamlessly integrates comfort and functionality. The centerpiece is a wall-to-wall platform designed for an Olympic Queen mattress, offering a perfect retreat after adventures.

Storage was paramount. The design features expansive cubbies accessible through the rear doors, accommodating everything from camping gear to outdoor essentials. A cleverly concealed drawer holds dry food supplies in an Rtic 65 cooler, while two deep drawers—one with segmented compartments and a laminate top—transform into a versatile kitchen workspace.

To elevate the living experience, the build includes two CR Lawrence and two VWD Overlander windows, flooding the space with natural light. A MaxxAir Vent Fan ensures optimal airflow, while a Fiamma F45S Awning provides shade for outdoor lounging. Dual Scopema swivels allow for flexible seating arrangements, and a B-pillar mounted Lagun table creates an inviting dining area.

This project not only meets practical needs but redefines mobile living, harmonizing comfort with innovative design.”

Didn’t take many pictures and could only make it for Thursday/Friday but it was good to see some folks from far away. I was heating up drums due to an adjustment issue and didn’t make it in time for the Treehouse Brewery cruise (sadly). The heat didn’t help! I was happy to see the show across the street on Friday!

Thanks for a good time NEVC!
