Are you thinking about visiting all 50 states in the US? Some people plan to visit all 3144 counties! I'm not planning to do that, but I do keep track, just because..!!.. Here's a post about meeting the "County Challenge" in my home state of Minnesota. I did that about a year ago. Here's the link to the post: https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/lVQQ1K

Do you want to take the Minnesota County Challenge? Or do you want to go for it in another state? All states??? Not likely!!

Crawford County is the southeasternmost county in Kansas, bordering both Missouri and Oklahoma. Route 66 runs through here for 13 miles! We had a great visit! https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/6Ovsow

When visiting Crawford County Kansas, be sure to stop at some of these places. It's worth the visit to see the attractions county-wide.

I'm back to writing about Minnesota. This one is from Eat Street in Minneapolis. That's about a six block section of Nicollet Ave. south of downtown. It's full of mostly ethnic restaurants! Check out the Black Forest Inn, the original on this street. https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/8UmWst

The Black Forest Inn became the first restaurant on what is now Eat Street. See the full story!

Here's more on the Great River Road. This covers the first two days on the west side of the river. That's from the place I crossed the Mississippi, leaving Natchez into Arkansas. Check this one! https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/XuLZPH

Initially crossed the river and didn't see a Welcome to Louisiana sign. Thought they heard I was coming through and hid the signs! But...fooled 'em. Found this one about 60 miles up the road. Louisiana

Already spotted a correction from Day 6. I started in Springfield MO, not IL. Saw a few sites in Tulsa. Cold and windy so skipped a few outside sights (can't see everything)! I've included a

Commemorating Day 17 (and final) day on Route 66 in Santa Monica. I arrived here just after noon and spent the afternoon walking around the pier and surrounding area. It felt anti-climatic. Where was the band, the city officials greeting me, the cheerleaders!! https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/kMBejG

More rambling... Woke up in Nauvoo IL and visited the LDS Temple and the Family Research Center. (Was going to post 2 or even 3 days together but so far one day has been enough.

Among other stops on this day on the Great River Road, I visited the Vicksburg Military National Park, with it's tribute to the Siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Vicksburg to control the lower Mississippi River. Check it out: https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/gerC5V

Back again for Day 5. More driving along the river and Vicksburg MS. Into Mississippi after spending the night in Memphis. Drove the road (GRR). Got off track a couple of times but back on.

While driving most of the Great River Road, I spent a full day plus 2 nights in Natchez. It's a historic town, about 300 years old. "Back in the day" cotton was king. Some very wealthy people lived here, many of them rich from the cotton farming. Here's the link for more: https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/EpdAX4

Natchez MS Three hundred year old city. Cotton kings and river boat businesses. The Big Muddy Someone mentioned the river looked muddy. It is. One of the nicknames is "The Big Muddy" although I prefer

I'm still posting about Route 66. Did you know the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is a National Park? While the Arch doesn't fit the original tradition of National Parks preserving natural resources, it is a national monument that the park service viewed as an essential monument to America, celebrating the movement to the west of population centers. Here's the link:

The Driveby Tourist took a drive-by picture of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and then stopped at an institution on R66. Ted Drews Custard. Gateway Arch is a National Park (link) Had to have

I'm starting ten days of posts about Route 66 and the Great River Road. Let's see about Oatman, AZ, and that part of AZ. Oatman is an old mining town, mostly a ghost town, that now continues for its tourism reputation. Here's the link: https://link.the-driveby-tourist.com/3rftN9

I recently completed a series of posts about my visit to Kansas last autumn. You may think Kansas is just flat, dusty, wind-blown plains. Have a look, as there is much to see here. You just need to get off I-70! Here's the link: https://www.the-driveby-tourist.com/love-s-central-kansas/
