12/27 Update on the Offshore Seabass Trip

Capt Bob has been monitoring the weather for your offshore trip, which would leave Sunday night. He was hoping that the seas forecast would improve but it is showing worse, with seas over 10ft.

Unfortunately for all of us, he has decided that it is best to cancel.

Please call 732-295-7569 If you already had a booking.

We do not have any further trips for this season, but we are looking forward to our exciting spring tilefish trips and other exciting trips in 2025

Thanks for your understanding

Our offshore sea bass trip on Monday was good fishing. You had to work at it but I believe everyone caught their limit. Some extra big porgies in the mix, too. One more trip, leaving Sunday night into Monday. Still spots available.

Went out for striped bass today. Slow morning but by 11AM I saw some readings and we caught a good mix of slots and bonus fish with a few throw-backs.

We did not have enough to go tomorrow (Friday) But will be headed out Saturday by 7:30 Wind and seas look good --don't let a little rain keep you home; we all have rain gear

The Gambler Captains and Crew would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah! 🎄🕎

Very light on customers yesterday, NE wind and drizzle was more than anticipated. But we decided to give it a shot. The seas were lumpy but manageable.

Starting drifts just North of Seaside in 60+ feet, we caught stripers ranging in size from 24" to 35". It was pretty good action on A-47 lures, despite the fast drift. By mid-morning the seas and rain were getting heavier and since we had a decent catch, we returned a little early.

No sail today
No sail tomorrow (lack of sign-ups due to weather forecasts)
No sail Monday (We will be offshore Sea Bass fishing)

There is still open spots for our offshore sea bass trip, leaving tomorrow night. Just call the office and leave a message if you'd like to join us. 732-295-7569

Gift certificates available -- buy directly online or leave a message and someone will call you back --732-295-7569

Hoping to get out at least a couple more times for stripers between the 26th and the 31st. The striped bass are moving, so there is no guarantee but Gambler will give it her best shot.

Took a longer run down the beach yesterday. Slow to start. Not a lot of bird action. But we did catch a mix of slots and bonus bass in the second half.

Most fish were taken on A47s again.

Looking to see if we can stay on them till the end of the month.

With the heading: Striped bass 2025 regulations

Below is Capt Bob’s comment about the possible Striped Bass closure. It takes just a few minutes to send a quick email!

From Capt Robert Bogan, Rep for United Boatmen NJ and owner party fishing boat Gambler, Pt Pleasant B*h NJ

I can understand the states South of NJ and NY frustration with a lack of striped bass in their waters.

But this is not a striped bass population problem. Like so many other species, striped bass have been migrating further North. The way things are trending, it could be that, in 10 years, the striped bass biomass will be out of the NY bight and mostly in New England waters. This is not a population problem, this is a climate change issue and an issue with Chesapeake Bay pollution. And those Southern states commercial fishery.

NJ and NY do not need to be punished due to the fact that the greater part of the striped bass now winters there.

In the early/mid 90s, when the striper limit for our state was two fish 28", the population exploded within a few years. Now, with stripers, as with other regulated species, when the fishing gets good due to a healthy population, fishermen are expected to take a bigger cut.

Leave regulations in place --or better-- go back to 2 stripers at 28"

Great November Striped Bass Fishing

Action all day. The nets got a workout

Ol' Pedro was out with us today and he caught non-stop on a plain AVA 47. John from the Reel Seat was out with us and he must have caught at least 12 (retaining his limit)

There is a huge bio-mass of striped bass up and down the NJ coast, feeding on sandeels, peanut bunker and rainfish. I expect the good fishing will hold up through December.
