💪 Strong Boards Build 💪 Strong Main Streets!

The folks on our Board of Directors are on our Board not just because they care about improving Main Street and supporting small businesses, but because they are active leaders in the community and consistently step forward to lend their expertise and get projects across the finish line.

They are involved in the City Council, Fair Board, Women’s Club, Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club, Chamber of Commerce, Development Authority, Community Foundation, and more. They own businesses, coach businesses, judge social studies fairs, participate in parades, make sure to attend as many events downtown as they can, and often rope family and friends into volunteering with us. They never give less than 100% to their community, and we appreciate them on !

Main Street America just released last year's visitors data, and to say we're happy with our numbers is an understatement! Tourism increased over 10% in 2024, the highest increase among the 25 Main Street programs in West Virginia, and we had the highest number of visitors per capita.

And with everything we have in the works for the next two years, we're just getting started!

We had a fantastic day today on Capitol Hill for Main Street America’s 2025 Hill Day alongside Director Robby Blair of Main Street Martinsburg, Director Lauren Kemp of RenewAll Inc, and fellow West Virginian Renee Kuhlman of the National Trust for Historic Preservation!

West Virginia is so lucky to have a Congressional delegation that works to get things done, and we had great conversations with Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Congresswoman Carol Miller, and Congressman Riley M. Moore about how proposed improvements to the Historic Tax Credits and a new credit for housing construction in downtown districts would create jobs, support small businesses, and increase revenue right here in Point Pleasant. We’re thankful for all three’s past and continued support of the Historic Tax Credits and our Main Street programs across the state!

Also a shoutout to Rep. Mike Carey of Ohio for the quick impromptu meeting! Rep. Carey has family roots here in Mason County, and we also appreciate his support of the Historic and Downtown Housing Tax Credits!

Thank You, 2024!

As we wrap up another incredible year, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who made 2024 unforgettable for Main Street Point Pleasant.

To our volunteers: You are the heart and soul of every event, every initiative, and every moment of connection in our community. Thank you for your time, energy, and unwavering dedication. Many hands lighten the load, and we're blessed to have your help.

To our sponsors: Your support allows us to dream big and make it happen. Your partnership ensures our events are memorable, our projects are impactful, and our work is able to continue.

To our board members: Your leadership and vision have been instrumental in our growth and success this year. Thank you for guiding Main Street Point Pleasant with wisdom and care. You all wear so many hats, and we appreciate that one of them is Main Street.

To our downtown businesses: Your resilience and creativity continue to inspire us. Thank you for being the heartbeat of our downtown and for making it such a special place for residents and visitors alike. We hear so many great things every day about their experiences in your shops, and we see the work you're doing.

To everyone who attended, participated, or cheered us on: Thank you for your enthusiasm and for believing in our mission to make downtown Point Pleasant the vibrant, thriving heart of the community that it ought to be.

From all of us at Main Street Point Pleasant, we wish you a very happy New Year!

12/21/2024

Currently, many historic rehabilitation projects are not economically viable in small and rural areas, giving a disproportionate advantage of the historic tax credit to large urban developments. The costs associated with the credit severely limit rural areas, and especially largely rural states like West Virginia, from being able to use the credit to rehabilitate and revitalize historic properties like the buildings on our very own Main Street.

To address these deficiencies, Senator Shelley Moore Capito introduced the Rural Historic Tax Credit Improvement Act yesterday. This bill aims to streamline processes, reduce cost-burdens to rural property owners and small developers, and provide affordable housing incentives. With Congresswoman Carol Miller supporting similar improvements to the historic tax credit in the House, we're hopeful for the passage of this important bill!

We have been thrilled to be a part of advocacy efforts for this bill during our visits to Washington, D.C., and for it to be introduced yesterday! Thank you to Senator Capito, the Historic Tax Credit Coalition, the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, Main Street America, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation for their work and support of this bill!

Just a few of the deals downtown today for ! Support Local this holiday season, and all year long, because these businesses are the ones actively trying to improve your community, and every dollar you spend with them stays right here in Mason County.

The stores at the mall don’t care about our town, our sports teams, or making sure our kids enjoy our festivals, but these folks do!
