We sure were surprised to see that there’s a bunch of plans being submitted to the city going back to February.

Thought this was a “sunshine” opportunity for local residents and businesses… but seems pretty shady right now.

Definitely open to learning more about how this came to be on the agenda for a June DRC meeting, when that “snack shack” is fully able to be reworked as is.

Quick question for local business owners in Pompano:

Were you aware of an opportunity to partner with the city on “revamping” or leasing the existing Pompano Beach Snack Shack (the one that used to serve coffee on the beach)?

Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Also- quick question for residents:

Were you aware of any plans from the city to ask or look for potential partners/tenants?

Any signs displayed on the building itself? Anything?

Please share your thoughts and experiences.

Residents of both Pompano Beach Club towers-

SAVE THE DATE: MAY 22nd

Just attended the architectural approval meeting at City Hall with about ten friends from both towers.

We viewed a 15+ story hotel with 220 indoor valet parking planned for the Bank of America site. It was a nice building but do we want a hotel across the street????

The builders will go before the Planning and Zoning board on the 22nd of May.

We need a big representation from both towers to halt this project. Please pass this on to all residents in the area and plan to go!

Two Photos...
1. View from the ocean looking towards the beach between SE 6th Ave (Ocean 6 Townhouses on the left) and SE 4th Ave (Christopher House on the right). Note that all the structures along Briny Ave on the BEACH SIDE are minimal in height.

2. Proposed MONSTROSITY - 10 story building at 580 Briny Ave. towering at 120 feet, 6 inches. This building does NOT fit the aesthetic of the neighborhood and the neighbors do not want a HIGH RISE building on that property, which would severely impact/limit their sunshine, privacy, traffic, etc.

Meetings THIS WEEK at the City of Pompano Beach will affect this project and others in the area.

Wednesay, May 15th at 9am - Development Review Committee Meeting. BE THERE!!!

Green space, beach conservation efforts, sea turtle protection… all things that overdeveloped land, more people crammed in an area & high rise buildings do not help.

Broward County, FL., is losing the battle over the last remaining pristine green space.

More high rises? No thank you.

Updated EMAIL list information. BIGGEST takeway - we need to raise $7500 right now for our attorney's retainer.
It's not a lot for us to raise... The total expected costs range from $50-75 per person. That would handle the ENTIRE expected expenditure for the first round. :)

Taxpayer expense alert!

There are two screen shots shown, that list the typical salary of a "City Manager" both in Florida, and as a whole across the United States.

This is a bit concerning regarding the recent raise (Now $355K+ salary) given to our local City of Pompano Beach City Manager by our city commission, which is now approximately 3X that of the national average.

While we appreciate that Mr. Harrison may be doing a "good job" according to city officials, it's very concerning that we're paying him at such an incredulous premium.

What are your thoughts?

Article here: https://www.newpelican.com/articles/pay-increase/

Snippets from the article:
The city commission gave a Valentine’s Day raise to its city manager and internal auditor Tuesday, voting in favor of the maximum merit increase for both men who have worked for the city since 2014.

Commissioners were asked to vote on whether to give City Manager Greg Harrison and Internal Auditor Deusdedit Kiyemba a one percent, three percent, or five percent merit raise.

Harrison is currently in the 85 percentile in a salary survey, according to Beecher.

Commissioner Barry Moss made a motion for the five percent increase for the city manager. “He does an excellent, phenomenal job,” said Moss.

Commissioner Alison Fournier commended Harrison on his “passionate, smart staff . . .” but added “a lot of my constituents don’t feel happy right now, they don’t feel heard. Until they feel heard, I can’t (support the increase).”

Mayor Rex Hardin commented that “the angst sometimes felt from the public should be directed at this body (the commission), not Mr. Harrison. He takes his orders from us and carries them out. People who show up with pitchforks sometimes are mad at us.”

Currently, Harrison is paid $329,293 annually. His new salary is $355,636.

Commissioner Beverly Perkins stated Harrison’s salary and his two titles: city manager and executive director of the Community Redevelopment Agency. “The president of the United States earns $400,000,” she said.
