Riding the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward. It is a 4-hour ride each way. The whole day was amazing with blue skies and incredible mountain views. Hehuanshan Pass, at 10,764 feet, is the highest point of the Taiwan highway system. From this pass, there are 5 peaks to hike to. The highest peak in Taiwn is Yushan Peak at 12,966 feet, which makes Taiwan the 4th highest island in the world.

This snowshoeing photo includes the tops of my snowshoe poles. I bought these ski poles at the Estes Park ski swap in November 1993. I paid $8 for the used poles. After 30 years of intense winter use, the original leather straps finally broke off. The photo shows the new straps that I made from $20 of leather that I bought from Joann Fabrics. I had to buy a $39 pair of scissors to be able to cut the leather. I sewed everything by hand using a plyers and two thimbles. And I only stabbed myself twice.... Now they are good for another 30 years!

There's two feet of new snow on Shadow Mountain Lake. It's so beautiful, and it is still snowing! I have been cross-country skiing in the snowmobile tracks. Perfect.....
