Free public Wi-Fi is now available on the Port Aransas beach! 🛜

The Port Aransas Tourism Bureau & Chamber of Commerce, Brightspeed, LLC, and the City of Port Aransas are excited to announce the launch of a pilot program providing free public Wi-Fi along the beach from Avenue G to the Horace Caldwell Pier. Limited service is also available in portions of town, beginning on the corner of Alister Street and Cotter Street.

The free Wi-Fi service is now available, and users can connect by selecting PortAransas-Free-Public-Wifi on their devices and using the SmartTown and Passport technology to auto connect when in an available area.

The Port Aransas Tourism Bureau & Chamber of Commerce encourages the community to provide feedback on the service to help guide future improvements by sending emails on user experience to [email protected].

Due to High tides and strong winds that are pushing the tides near the dunes, Beach Camping at Mustang Island State Park will be closed until Monday March 10th. Additionally, wildfire conditions remain very high this weekend, so NO campfires are allowed on the beach however charcoal and containerized fuel may still be used for cooking purposes only. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause some visitors.

⏰ Set your alarms to see a total lunar eclipse this Thursday night/Friday morning!

Watch as the full Moon passes through Earth’s shadow, then turns a spectacular red-orange hue during totality. During a lunar eclipse, the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned like this:

Eclipse timeline (in central time):

10:57 pm, March 13: Eclipse begins. The full Moon will begin to diminish in brightness as it enters Earth’s outer shadow, called the penumbra.

12:09 am, March 14: The Moon, full but dim, enters Earth’s inner shadow, called the umbra.

1:26 am: Totality begins! The Moon appears red as it is now fully inside Earth’s umbra.

1:58 am: Maximum eclipse (if you only get up once to see the eclipse, this is the best time!): The deep red Moon is near the center of Earth’s shadow.

2:31 am: Totality ends: The Moon begins to exit Earth’s umbra.

3:47 am: The Moon is now fully outside of the umbra but still in the penumbra. The red color has faded.

5:00 am: Is anyone still watching? The eclipse ends as the full Moon exits Earth’s shadow and returns to its normal brightness.
