Chances are decreasing for tropical storm winds from Rafael to reach Port Aransas, but big waves, rip currents and beach flooding are expected. With Rafael in the Gulf, longer period swells will work into Coastal Bend beaches, raising the rip current risk through the weekend. Waves won't be huge, but 10-15 seconds between waves is significant.

Welcome back Boots!

Boots the alligator appears to be back. This popular long-time resident of Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center left in early July and has not been spotted at this usual hangout there since then, until this morning, Saturday, Oct. 26. Here he is in the reeds next to his usual hangout under one of the pavilions at the birding center. There has been some back-and-forth as to whether this is actually Boots, but Justin Quintanilla of the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department confirms that it is,indeed, Boots.
