The shores of Port Aransas are home to a variety of sea turtles, including the endangered Kemp’s Ridley. Protection of these turtles and their nests is crucial.

Judy Parker, a volunteer with the Amos Rehabilitation Keep (ARK), shows a green sea turtle to spectators at a sea turtle release on the beach in Port Aransas today. (South Jetty staff photo by Lee Harrison, © 2022.)
Folks from the ARK released a number of sea turtles into the Gulf of Mexico as a large crowd looked on at Marker 35.
Located at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, the ARK rescues and rehabilitates sick and injured sea turtles, shorebirds and other wildlife before releasing them back into the wild.
Watch for more in the next edition of the South Jetty newspaper.
