There are flat screen tvs in the living room and both bedrooms as well as DVD players in the living room and master bedroom. We also stock board games, movies and books in the unit and there is strong Port Royal WiFi. The outdoor deck faces the gulf and sand dunes so you can enjoy the sunset and relax when you are done with exciting pool side for the day. There is a high top table for 4 and 4 additional chairs. Our unit is just one quick floor up from your two reserved covered parking spots and the pool level. All we need is you. What is great about Port Royal is you are a guest of the hotel which means you have towels and linens, soap and shampoos etc., dish soap and starter dishwasher and laundry soap as well as access to pool towels, but this unit looks and feels like home. (Note that the pool towels, but you will want to bring a beach towel or two, but there is a washer and dryer in the unit). The phone number listed on this page is to Port Royal for our unit, but if 6114 is booked when you call, they can always help you find another good fit. We love the new dog height showers that are of course also foot showers. There are also hoses under building 6 and 3 for cleaning you pup.

The stars at night, are big and bright!

August 13th is the peak of the Perseids Meteor Shower. Every night this week gives you an opportunity to witness this exciting event, but tomorrow morning and tomorrow night should make for something special. With estimated counts of 50 - 100 "shooting stars" an hour, it is certainly going to be a good show. The lack of a moon will help these streaks of light stand out.

But where is a good place to watch them? Here at Padre Island National Seashore we have a Night-sky Observatory located at the left side of the Malaquite parking lot. This enclosed structure helps limit the amount of light pollution from nearby cities disturbing your viewing of the night sky. Driving down island will also provide an excellent place to watch. Once you get five miles down the beach from Malaquite Visitor Center the light pollution goes down to a minimum and the stars will appear much brighter. (LG) (NPS Image)
