One of these days I’m going to be practiced enough to get great video. Lots of those on YouTube today but I couldn’t pass up posting what we got to see on tour today.

We don’t do launch tours, but we certainly, when allowed, take advantage when there’s a launch while we’re doing a tour 😁.

Awesome!!

We did it! 2023 now holds the record for most turtle nests ever recorded in Canaveral National Seashore in a single season!! It is also the first time over 8000 greens have nested in a single year!

Here’s to sea turtles leaving their mark! Turtle tracks cover the seashore in the morning light.

A few years ago our tour was allowed at the site of the first launches at Cape Canaveral. No structures left at the original launch complex, but pretty cool to be right where it started. With all the new history being made and launch complexes being built we no longer have access. Glad they are still researching history!

Some exciting news, the UCF students that make up the Cape Canaveral Archaeological Mitigation Project that have been looking for the site of the original Bumper Rocket Blockhouse near the Lighthouse and they have found it!!

The Blockhouse was used for the first ever rocket launch on Cape Canaveral on 24 July 1950 with Bumper #8 and the UCF survey is part of the Space Forces efforts to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first launch in 2025. Hopefully the Lighthouse will be part of that celebration.

Never a dull moment on the space coast! Rocket boosters lined up to enter the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. I’m not a rocket scientist, but I do believe these may be new ULA Vulcan boosters.
If you haven’t heard yet the Vulcan engine block is reusable. It will be returned via a cone shield, a parafoil, and a sn**ch out of the sky by helicopter! What will they think of next 😊

On a recent tour we had a young wildlife enthusiast very interested in otters. Not a sight we get to see often and usually it’s such a surprise there’s no time to get the camera. This one was showing off for the camera I think!

Say what!? Today, Canaveral National Seashore celebrates its 48th birthday! There is no 'otter' place I would rather be!!! The seashore encompasses 24 miles of pristine, undisturbed shoreline and 57,661 acres. Established January 3, 1975, by the 93rd Congress, to preserve and protect the outstanding natural, scenic, scientific, ecologic and historic values of certain lands, shoreline, and waters of the State of Florida and to provide for public outdoor recreation use and enjoyment of the same.

The otter, Lontra canadensis, in the photo is sitting on its back end stretched up tall, looking into a canal wondering if it is safe to enter. You may see one slinking across the road while roaming from canal-to-canal foraging for fish.

SpaceX did it again! No place better to live than the Space Coast! Falcon heavy boosters returning to the cape and we couldn’t have asked for a better view than by the lighthouse! A sight we never get tired of!Thursday morning our tour van had to wait as SpaceX returned its booster to their facilities for refurbishment. And then again Saturday morning a second booster was transported during our special National Lighthouse Weekend event.

Save the Light auction winner enjoyed their day at the Lighthouse today. They received the royal treatment with transportation in our executive coach, exceptional Hors D’oeuvres from Wild Oceans Seafood and escorted climb to the top by the Lighthouse Foundation docents. The Air Force Missile Museum opened Hanger C for walking among Spaceflight artifacts, and of course the lighthouse museum and gift store were open! Big thanks to Auction winner and all the volunteers who made the event happen!! Thank you for supporting the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse! Always exciting to see a booster landing! Even with a delay, a scrub & 3 rescheduled tours 😮. So cool to see it just plummeting from the sky before the engines ignite. wasn’t prepared with my good camera, I didn’t expect to see it because of a schedule conflict, but with the delay I was in the right place at the right time! Only with my phone camera 🙄 but still got the sonic boom!

Love it when we get to watch a launch on the lighthouse tour! It’s been a while since we’ve had the opportunity. The gopher tortoises have not been very outgoing this year (maybe they are social distancing too!). But spring break is in full swing and It was nice to see this guy out and about today on our Lighthouse and Space fight Tour.

At Canaveral Tours, we believe everyone should be able to see the history and beauty of Florida without enduring the extremes of Florida’s climate and the stress of big city crowds. Our coach tour is a comfortable 10 passenger Mercedes coach. The standard tour boards at The Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral, public parking available and our ticket includes Free admission to the tower. Contact us for custom tours or boat tours. Our Lighthouse tour transports you to the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse for a guided tour. The 3 1/2 hour tour also includes history of the expansion of the cape, port and space programs. The tour stops at historic launch complexes, memorials and has views of operational launch complexes and a visit to the Sands Space History Center.

The history of Cape Canaveral goes back to the Ais Indians before European settlers arrived. In the late 1800’s the Lighthouse was constructed and permanent residents settled in. The 1940’s ushered in the missile and space programs which established what we know today as the Eastern Range, for missile and rocket launches. Commercial and military programs work side by side to keep the dream of space exploration alive. Port Canaveral plays an important role in assisting the space program, commercial industry, cruise industry and great places to eat and shop. Our tour takes you along this historic journey with views, visits and narratives of the history of Cape Canaveral.

Our Wildlife tours take you to see the natural wonders and beauty of Florida through the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore. We are the only tour company that takes you on a “No Sweat’ experience. We plan the itinerary, drive you in an air-conditioned executive coach and provide everything you need while you sit back and relax. We will point out interesting wildlife and landscape, binoculars are provided. We offer standard coach tours of 4 or 6 hours. Custom Coach or Boat tours are also available.

One thing we have learned is that nature changes every day. The good news is it doesn’t matter what the weather, temperature or season, the refuge has something to offer. The early bird gets the worm, and that’s why we get an early start on the day.

I am always amazed by the differences between tours. Sometimes the bird’s are so plentiful it’s a challenge to see them all. Other times they are scattered and you have more time to watch as they forage, hunt or play. Alligators, hogs, raccoons and other surprise visits of wildlife are common sights along the tour.

Manatee are active and visible almost every day, but if they are being shy it is not uncommon to see dolphin coming in for a meal. The varied habitat from fresh water marsh to saltwater marsh, hardwood hammock to pristine beach provides an opportunity to see a comprehensive wildlife habitat.
