A note from yesterday's customer:
Dear Anges and Dan

I wanted to thank you profusely for our sail day yesterday … you were both very patient and understanding.

I confess while sitting with my dad, knowing how active a sailor he was, and the only true connection between us as people, brought tears behind my sunglasses . I wasn’t at all sure he even understood where he was, or whether he enjoyed himself.

Then when we got into the car, he said “wow, I never thought I’d experience that motion again”, and I knew, I really knew, he absorbed it all. It was the Father’s Day gift I wanted to give him . The motion and the breeze .

In addition to doing several exceptional cruises recently, Smoke And Roses was given lots of TLC. Both engines and transmissions were serviced, her bottom was cleaned, the floors were oiled, the anemometer was adjusted from the top of the mast and 6 new hatches/windows were installed, one in the salon, the galley, and one in each of the 4 heads. She is looking awesome!

Smoke and Roses made two Day Sail ventures to Cabbage Key this past week. Everyone enjoyed some great sailing, lots of wildlife, exploring Cabbage Key, good fellowship and the awesome Florida sunshine.

We are enjoying the first signs of fall with slightly cooler temps and drier air. After doing lots of buffing, polishing and maintenance the past couple month, we look forward to welcoming our guests for our upcoming charters. The photos are some of the views around the boat while working.

Smoke and Roses is temporarily suspending charters for hurricane season, upgrades and maintenance. Charters will resume October 1, 2023. We are still answering emails and phone calls and will continue to book future charters. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you soon.

Our Day Sail this past week took us to one of our favorite places, Cayo Costa Island. With 9 miles of undeveloped shoreline, it has some of Southwest Florida’s most beautiful beaches and you can only get there by boat so it is never crowded. There is a little cove where manatee often hang out that we explored with the dinghy. The eye of hurricane Ian made landfall on Cayo Costa bringing devastation; the beaches, trees and buildings all suffered. The docks at the entrance to the state park are destroyed and still haven't been replaced. The park remains closed to visitors. Here are some photos of this alluring island.

Meeting awesome people and inspiring them to follow their dreams is one of the great parts of what we do. An enthusiastic couple this week thanked us for “such an amazing time and wealth of information”. They stated that we may have given them the boost needed to make some changes and start a sailing plan. We strive to make every cruise special.

We are grateful for our wonderful customers and very pleased with all the repeat business we have had this season. Repeat customers have been a good portion of our charters and we love seeing the familiar faces as well as catching up. A big thank you to our guests, it is a pleasure meeting all of you and cruising together. The photos include some scenes around Charlotte Harbor during recent cruises.

It is great to introduce people to the beauty of Charlotte Harbor and the tranquility of sailing. Our guests often comment on how peaceful it is to sail on the Harbor and that cruising with us is even better than they thought it would be. We love giving so many wonderful families and fun groups of friends the opportunity to experience catamaran sailing on Charlotte Harbor.

Charlotte Harbor is a beautiful place to sail and we have done lots of fast sailing the past couple weeks. We have seen lots of stunning sunsets too, something we never get tired of.

It's always fun when dolphin come to play in our bow! These guys showed up right after sunset and stayed with us for 15+ minutes.

“This is the moment, and it is magic.” That was a comment from a guest on Smoke and Roses last night. It is the second time this week people referred to our cruises as magic or magical. I believe God creates that magical feeling with the beauty he wraps us in during our cruise, the sky, the fresh air, the smooth sailing and the good fellowship makes for an extraordinary experience. Come feel the magic.

The last leg to home.

Making sure we would be through the channel and at the Snake Creek bridge for the 8:00 am opening, we weighed anchor at 7:40. Doing some repairs at sea.

It is 6 AM Tuesday morning and I can see first light. We are still on the Great Bahamas bank in 22 feet of water, sailing at 7 knots with 97 NM to our destination. One and half hours later we were off the bank and sailing in the Atlantic Ocean towards the Straits of Florida.

Our most challenging day.

A unique piece of deep ocean, known as the tongue of the ocean lies, just outside the Andros Island barrier reef. It is a deep oceanic trench that separates Andros from the shallow Exuma bank.
