Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-see place in Denmark. It was crucial to the country as far back as 1420 as all ships passing on the Baltic Sea had to stop and pay a toll. Today it is a most beloved place to visit because of the legend of Holger the Dane, a Viking Age Warrior, and because of William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet.

The name ‘LEGO’ is an abbreviation of the two Danish words “leg godt,” meaning “play well.” Play well is the perfect description for the hours of fun people have when creating and building with the toy bricks. People loved them so much that more than 20,000 people visit the factory each year to see the bricks and detailed models. The idea of the theme park came from the need to send those visitors to see detailed models and bricks at their own pace and not detract from production. The idea for Miniland was the original, central concept and still a favorite part of the original theme park in Billund, Denmark.
