Join us in officially welcoming the M/V Long Island to our fleet. We are happy to announce that at 1:15 this afternoon, December 27th, the Long Island took her inaugural voyage from Port Jefferson NY to Bridgeport CT.

She is the first new ferry to join our fleet in 21 years. At 302’ in length, this state-of-the-art vessel will continue our 141 year tradition of “breaking the sound barrier”. Look for the Long Island in our schedule and let us welcome you aboard !

On Friday, May 3rd, Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. successfully launched the ferry LONG ISLAND in Panama City, FL. The vessel was christened by Rosemary McAllister.

"This launch is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team at Eastern Shipbuilding Group," said Joey D’Isernia, CEO, and Chairman of ESG. "We are honored to partner with our friends at McAllister Towing and contribute to enhancing the transportation infrastructure for the residents and tourists of Long Island."

The Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company is proud to provide safe, scenic, and relaxing transit across Long Island Sound for hundreds of thousands of passengers and cars every year. The addition of the ferry LONG ISLAND will upgrade and expand the service. Buck McAllister, the President of the ferry company, said “P.T. Barnum, the founder of the ferry, once said that the noblest art is that of making others happy. All of those who have worked to make the ferry service what it is today can be very proud of their role helping drivers on the I-95 and Long Island Expressway. Eastern Shipbuilding has provided our company with over a dozen high quality vessels and transformed the maritime services we can offer. We are very thankful to Eastern Shipbuilding and the D’Isernia family for the happiness this new vessel will bring to our employees and customers for generations to come.”

Saturday March 9: Join us for Ducks Unlimited Hockey Night, sponsored by the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company & the Four Harbors Chapter of Duck Unlimited. See the Bridgeport Islanders take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, CT. Game starts at 7:00 PM. To ensure arrival by game time you must be at the Port Jeff ferry terminal no later than 4:45PM. The final return ferry will be 10:15 PM. Tickets are $25 and include round trip walk-on ferry passage from Port Jeff. 100% of ticket proceeds go to Ducks Unlimited. Tickets can be picked up at the Port Jefferson Ferry office the day of the game. Connecticut attendees can pick up their tickets at the arena’s Will Call office, a round trip walk-on ferry ticket will be provided for future use. On International Women’s Day, McAllister Towing would like to salute all women in maritime! We are especially grateful and appreciative to all the talented and dedicated women at McAllister, whether on the water or ashore, who continue to help us lead the way! In honor of , McAllister Towing would like to recognize a couple of shining stars who we are proud to say are a part of the family.
Erykah James, Port Engineer – New York. Erykah joined McAllister Towing 2 ½ years ago after graduating from SUNY Maritime with a 3rd assistants engineer unlimited endorsement. When asked about her time at McAllister she said, “I’ve gained a lot of hands-on experience in a short period of time. When I am not diagnosing a multitude of issues, I am running a boat as a relief engineer. It’s extremely satisfying to be accepted by my peers, both afloat and ashore, who respect me for who I am and trust that women are fully capable of completing all the tasks that come with being a Port Engineer. Being a role model to women mariners has had a lasting impact for me. It is inspiring to have younger women say they look up to me and because of my experiences that I can share with them, they become motivated to keep going in this industry.”
Alexandra Buongiovanni, AB – Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry. It will be 7 years next month when Alexandra’s maritime career began at the ferry. She started as an Ordinary Seaman and in 2 years earned enough sea-time to go to school and obtain her upgrade. Alexandra said, “Being a part of the maritime industry as a female is very rewarding. I feel proud to be trailblazing a path for future women interested in the maritime industry. But the most rewarding part is the respect and acknowledgement that I quickly received from everyone at the ferry and all of the knowledge I’ve gained from the captains and crew I’ve worked with over the years.”
