Heck of the day on the water. Got me on my first redfish on fly. I have not thrown a fly rod in about 7yrs. Monster Snook on 10lb braid with 20lb leader. On top of the multiple other Reds and Black Drum. Hopefully the video will be dropping soon at Haywire Outdoors on YouTube.

Well that didn't go at planned. Probably should have went hunting instead...lol. The fish we found pre fishing didn't stick around when the temp dropped like it did for the other anglers but that's the way it goes. Congrats to the winners of the Power-Pole National Redfish Tour

So here what happened in the Power-Pole National Redfish Tour in Jax. Pre-fishing went great found a few areas that had the right fish. So me and Tim Russell came up with a plan. We figured our fish might be a little stubborn with the cold temps but positive we would get them....(high hopes). Get to our fist spot and the fish were gone, go to our next area and the water was super low and dirtier than we expected. The Avid Boats 21FST did its job gettingus in and out. Then on to the next spot and it was same. So we picked a spot where we've never been waiting on the tide to start coming back in. We picked up a few tiny barely legal reds. Then the water cleared up and started coming back in. We decided to go back to our area to see if the fish moved in. They did but the size shrunk with the cold. Some fish pre-fishing and then tournament day.

The rig Avid Boats, the fish, the results...... my daughter got 1st place in redfish with most spots and I got 1st on biggest redfish. So now I guess we have a new family tradition with my daughter and fishing the Flagler HBA Fishing Tournament every October. Got to give a shout out to Craig Patterson at Donald's Bait and Tackle with the winning redfish bait. Also thanks to BAJÍO Sunglasses for protection my eyes during the eclipse.

So Team Getit-Nuati took 2nd place in the Anglers for a Cure slam tournament run by Jordan Carroll in St. Augustine. We knew it was gonna be a rough one so we stopped by the Fishbites Trading Post to pick up a few goodies. I was able to get out and do some pre-fishing Wednesday and try to learn a few things but I was a day early with the extreme flood tides and rain which made me toss out everything I figured out the window. Me and CaptMark Gibson talked and the only thing we decided on was to point the Avid Boats 21FTS north. As we left that morning running up river we noticed some birds and bait, so we made a stop in an area I've never fished and within the 1st hour we had out flounder and trout. So we picked up and kept going north looking for a redfish. We managed a 18" one and now we have our micro slam. As the day moved on we needed to find where the water was finally going out, so we stopped where we started and fished a bit with nothing we could upgrade. My gut said go hit one of my old fishing holes and we were off. About 5 minutes in there got a nice redfish to get rid of the 18"er and about 5 mins after that we were able to find a slightly bigger trout. As we put the trout in the livewell we noticed that the red was not doing very well. At this point we figured let's just get back and Mark was gonna fish-sit on the 30min ride back.... he did a great job because by the time we got back that fish was kicking and beating up our little trout. Got the fish weighed and missed winning by 2.5 ozs. Got to give Mark credit for hanging in there with me throwing artificials all day. I know he was a little sore after. Great tournament and a great cause. I'm hoping things line up to where I can fish it again next year.

How it started to how it ended..... poor was a little worn out and not used to throwing artificials all day but he stuck to it and came through. got it done today at the just got to go where they can't.

1 and 0 in the new fst21. Took 1st place in the Fysh slam tournament today. It took a bit to fill the slam and also we got it done and a little lucky, on the trout.. it was a happy accident getting her while targeting redfish. .com

PSA.......Fall Redfish Spawn

It's time to ruffle a few feathers on this one. So to all the fishermen out there from weekend warriors to charter/ fishing guides. Here is an issue or problem I've been seeing over the years as the sport of fishing is growing. During the Fall with a lot of fish spawning, and Redfish in particular. Watching the the miss handling of these fish from lip gaffing, holding them out of the water too long to get the perfect pic, to releasing without properly reviving them, and on top of that the stress it puts on these fish. People that have been in this fishery for years can tell you that the year round redfishing has been going down hill.
In my opinion these fisherman that target the redfish and don't know how to treat them during the spawn do more harm than good. Captains and Guides should know better. I'm not saying don't target them BUT to do so for the "HERO" shot to make yourself look good for your website or social media and taking these fish out of the water is not beneficial at all to the fish. You know the rule on tarpon where they catch bring them to the boat and never take them out of the water.... yeah why not as anglers/fishermen do the same with this resource. They are here to make babies. Instead of pulling the fish out of the water and adding more stress, why not get them to the boat use some type of fish grips get your pic of your "Trophy" on the side of the boat while the fish is still in the water and then make sure the fish is fully revived and released unharmed.
Now please understand that I'm not the 18 to 27" slot fish that you may catch but I'm talking about the breaders, the 30" plus fish that are here to spawn. If you want this resource here for you and your kids please respect how you treat these fish. I used to target this redfish on charters and have stopped years ago because I got tired of seeing them float by DEAD!
Here is a little info and math
While in the 2-month spawning period for redfish, the spawning potential of an individual redfish is truly stupendous. At an average of 1½ million eggs per spawn, and a spawning every 2 to 4 days, the average female can be expected to produce 20-40 million eggs per season. While the spawn takes place in deep water it happens near an inlet on incoming tides that carry the eggs into the backwater.
So let do the math.... if and I know I'm LOW BALLING here, if on average 5 FISH ARE KILLED A DAY BECAUSE OF MISS TREATING AND MISS HANDLING them in that 60 day spawn.... thats 300 and each fish produces 20 to 40 million eggs during that time. So we will say 20 million, that's 6,000,000,000 (billion) eggs that may not have a shot at developing and THATS JUST Ponce Inlet, and not including the other inlets and areas from Texas and the Gulf States, Florida to Virginia.
