The wait is finally over with the arrival of our first nest of the season on our stretch of beach!
This momma had a nice clean, flat, and dark path to complete her very important mission. As we prepare to welcome many more to come, please help spread the word to your friends, neighbors, and guests that these hard-working mommas and babies depend on us to clear the way at the end of the day: lights out and leave no trace. Let's make this a safe and enjoyable summer for all of our wonderful beach visitors.🐢

Exciting news from the Trading Post families: We're thrilled to share that Kyle Cunningham and Tylor Chaffin have officially acquired the Cape Trading Post! After months of collaboration, they're prepared to take the reins.
A heartfelt Thank You goes out to our Cape community, loyal customers, dedicated vendors, and all past and present staff. Your support has been invaluable on this journey.
As we embark on our 15th year, the decision to pass on our business wasn't taken lightly. However, having worked closely with Kyle and Tylor, we're confident in their ability to uphold our standards and serve our community with excellence.

The DuPont "Chateau" was moved to it's new location yesterday! This historical house will be relocated 3 miles out of town on the way to Appalacicola. The same company, Ducky Johnson House Movers, who moved the lighthouse to PSJ performed the move. Always a site to see!!

It's turtle time! 🐢💚 🐢💚 🐢💚

The U.S. Postal Service is releasing 6 commemorative sea turtle stamps on June 11, 2024. NOAA Fisheries scientist Barbara Schroeder (National Sea Turtle Coordinator) worked on this effort, with assistance from Jeff Seminoff (lead of the Marine Turtle Ecology and Assessment Program), during her last year of federal service and into retirement.

These are the first U.S. stamps dedicated solely to sea turtles. They will be issued as a pane of 18 forever stamps, intended to increase public awareness of sea turtle conservation efforts and the ongoing threats to their survival.

Introducing our NEW adopt-a-nest program! For the first time ever you can symbolically "adopt" a sea turtle nest in T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park! By adopting a nest, you directly support Friends of St. Joseph State Parks with preserving and protecting the park's natural and cultural resources.

How it Works
Once you adopt a nest, we will assign you to one of our current sea turtle nests. You will receive notification via email along with a printable adoption certificate and picture of the nest when you are assigned a nest. After the nest hatches and the data has been collected, you will receive an email with specific information about your nest.

What you Get
For your $50 tax deductible donation, you or designated recipient will receive the following:

-Printable adoption certificate
-Photo of the nest
-Nest evaluation results

Important Note
Nests are assigned in the order that adoptions are received. Nesting typically begins around mid-May, so it might be June or July before your nest is assigned. Please keep in mind that you may never see your adopted nest in person. High tide and storm events sometimes wash nests away, and sometimes predators can destroy nests despite our best efforts. Thank you for understanding that these events are out of our control.
