Spring is right around the corner. Let's get out and Experience the booze this city produces.

This weekend was Zwickelmania, and this is our recap to the afternoon. With Portland having 58 breweries, the most craft breweries per capita in the world, Zwickelmania is a free event to showcase what our city does with beer, and what we do with drinking beer. 50 of our 58 breweries participated this year and each brewery put on their best party face paired with their most interesting beers for the event. While I was there I stopped by three breweries; Hair of the dog, Basecamp, and Grixsen. Each brewery set up shop in there kettle rooms to give genuine authenticity to what it’s like to brew beer. With two or three free feature beers at each site, staff gave every person interested a low-down on how there beers were made. The favorite beer that I had on my journey was a Nieuw Brun put out by Basecamp. Kettle made and then fermented in barrels for 3 months, the Nieuw Brun was 9.0 ABV and had notes of apple that were brought out by the oak-y barrels it waited in patiently for months to grace our lips. There was also okcupid trivia at Basecamp that was comical as I don't partake in dating sites, but I downloaded anyway to join in with the festivities. Getting to Grixsen ended up being challenging since I had loved the beer and patio at Basecamp so much, so I called up an old co-worker and he picked me up in a cab. This was a Zwickelmania game changer. Feeling like a tipsy queen, I was driven by pedal down through Ladd’s Addition and over to Grixsen for my last stop. At this point it was almost 3pm and the streets of Portland were flooded with thousands of beer nerds that had been drinking and partying since 11AM. There’s nothing cuter than drunk dads, am I right? If you missed this event or are already planning for Zwickelmania next year I would highly recommend taking a pedicab. You can blast music, feel like a queen, and not worry about a DUI or trying to use your Lyft app after you’ve had 7 beers. Plus with there being 58 breweries in city it’s hard to know which
