Some mornings sure are pretty here...

Lucky Catch -

I’ve been pining to get out for a good ole’ Maine sunrise for a while now. Right before turning in last night, I checked the cloud forecast for this morning, and it looked promising. I thought of places I’d like to photograph and the two that came to mind were Portland Head Light and the Portland waterfront. I chose here because I wanted to see the beautiful sky reflected in some sheltered water. I have the shot looking right into the super intense sky, which I’ll share later, but this view looking askance was more interesting with the mammatus-like clouds being highlighted above. I love a good sunrise and I love Maine!

I cannot recommend going lobstering enough, y'all.

We went out on the boat with Lucky Catch Cruises and learned so much about Maine lobsters, how the fisherman are responsibly harvesting them, and the Portland Harbor area.

Like, when female lobster are caught in a lobster trap and they have eggs on them, the fisherman mark the lobster on the tail and then put her back in the water. From there on out, she is protected for life because:

☝️not all female lobster can reproduce so they want to protect those that can
✌️female lobsters can reproduce for life (which could be up to 100 years)

While on the boat, we checked the traps, reloaded them with bait, measured the lobster we caught, and put the rubber bands on the claws. We also heard a lot of great information from the ship captain about the area, the places we passed while one the boat, and of the other sealife 🦀 we caught in the traps (and threw back).
