Diving with Green Turtles off La Coco Beach in Costa Rica!
After the turtles work their way from their nest which is about 3 feet or a meter down in the sand, volunteers wait until evening to record weight and measurements. The next step is to release them in different area of the beach trying to scatter them along the 3 kilometers of beach. May is a great time to travel to Costa Rica for laying leatherbacks and hatchlings!
3rd night of turtle patrolling and no turtles came up to lay. You can never predict nature, so that is why 3-4 nights stay at Las Estation Tortuga increases your change of seeing the amazing event of a large turlte laying her eggs. We were able to release some hatchlings for the second night of the season. They have been buried in the sand about a meter down for somewhere around 60 days. We are looking forward to patrolling on our last night and i'm sure it will be a good night.
