When visiting Paradise Valley:

DOWNTOWN LIVINGSTON:

Pickle Barrel Sandwich shop downtown Livingston
Rib and Chop House
Bis sky Thai
Los Pinos

IN THE VALLEY VISIT:

Wildflour Bakery
Follow Y'er Nose Follow Yer' Nose BBQ

Sage Lodge is really nice

Best hike in the valley and Park:

Pine Creek Waterfall Hike is a local favorite.
Check out Daily Lake for a nice stroll or some fishing fun.

Hike in the Park:

Trout Lake is one of our family favorites.
Petrified Tree
Specimen Ridge
Pelican Valley Loop

Favorite Hikes:
Trout Lake hike~~about a 1/4 uphill climb to an awesome lake. If you walk quietly and look you may see otters and their pups basking on the logs that surround the lake. When you reach the top, follow the trail to the right and circle all the way around the lake.

Lost lake hike near Petrified tree: we've seen antelope, bison, bighorn sheep, moose and black bear back in near the lake.

Cascade Lake Trail in the canyon area: Likely to see Moose and/or Grizzly

Picnic Area hike near Roosevelt: Likely to see Bighorn sheep and black bear. Great views of the canyon. Watch your footing!!!! We've seen the Park Service do a body recovery via helicopter and climbers.

These are just a few of our favorites. At the River's Edge Cabins, there are several hiking Yellowstone books and other valuable info.

Lamar Valley: home of the Bison and Wolves! If you see people gathering and looking through scopes, make sure you stop and ask what they are looking at. Oftentimes, there is a kill site where both grizzlies and wolves feed. In the Spring, they may have scopes on the wolf pups as they play outside the den. You can barely see with the naked eye, but easily with a scope.

If you will be hiking in Yellowstone in groups smaller than 4 people, we strongly recommend carrying bear spray. When you stay with us, we make sure you have everything you need for exploring Yellowstone. We provide bear spray, hiking books, binoculars, trekking poles and hiking packs (upon request).

My husband owns/operates Rocky Mountain Guide Service. occasionally takes visitors into the Park. Many guests go through the Park without a guide. Our last guests used an app to take them through the park and really enjoyed the experience. It's called "GyPsy Guide" If you'd like a guided tour through the park, please message me.

Fishing:

If you're staying at one of our cabins, we can provide you with several guide names.
Our Cabins are at a Fishing Access with a boat ramp. There is also a day use area with a sandy bottom for easier fly fishing walking distance from the cabin. Several guests have fished from the property with great luck. We always recommend that all our guests purchase a fishing license.

On your way to the cabin is SweetWater Fly Shop where the experts can answer all your fishing questions

Valley Gems:

Chico Hot Springs offers Horseback Riding, soaking in the Hot Springs, live music, and both casual and fine dinning at their 100 year old Establishment. Having a Black and Blue Burger with Jerk fries at their Bar is one of my favorites.
Chico Hot Springs Main Dining Hall: Fillet mignon, cedar plank salmon, Beef Wellington served tableside for two, Flaming orange and chocolate dessert..... ITS NEVER TOO EARLY TO BOOK YOUR RESERVATIONS!!!!!! Chico is a world-renowned resort that books early because it is a huge wedding venue. They also serve a great Sunday Brunch.
Chico Hot Springs is just 15 minutes from the Cabins. They have a wonderful coffee shop with the best baristas in the valley! At the Hot Springs you can grab a coffee, soak in the pools, shop at the well-appointed gift store, enjoy 5 star dining in the main dining hall or casual dining at the poolside grill, listen to live music and dance the night away in the bar, book a horseback riding trip, or schedule a scenic or white water rafting trip.

Sage Lodge offers fine dinning and an incredible view of Emigrant Peak. It truly is worth a visit Probably the best place to take friends you want to impress. 5 star dinning here is a must.
Your children can walk Llamas at the Lodge and enjoy a fishing lesson in the beautiful lake.

Follow Yer' Nose BBQ has live music on Thursday. Its a husband and wife dynamic duo that run the BBQ Place and Wildflour Bakery next door. She whips up the most mouth watering breakfast treats, while her hubby serves up the most delicious Southern BBQ I've ever had...the brisket is to die for perfect!

Daily Lake is a nice picnic area. but it takes awhile on a bumpy gavel road.

(News Release Update) On the morning of July 4, Yellowstone National Park law enforcement rangers confronted an individual shooting a semi-automatic rifle toward a dining facility at Canyon Village located in the central part of the park. The shooter has been identified by the Park County, Wyoming coroner as Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner, 28, of Milton, Florida. Fussner died after an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. The investigation into this incident, including the actions of the National Park Service (NPS) law enforcement rangers, is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and will be reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming.

Just after midnight on July 4, Yellowstone’s 911 dispatch center received a report that a woman had been held against her will by a man with a gun in a residence at Canyon Village. She also reported to law enforcement rangers that Fussner threatened to kill her and others, including plans to allegedly carry out a mass shooting(s) at July 4th events outside the park.

Responding law enforcement rangers located his vehicle unoccupied in the Canyon area. The preliminary investigation indicated Fussner was likely armed and dangerous. With the individual at large, law enforcement rangers were strategically deployed to protect areas with park visitors and employees while searching for Fussner, and the park’s 911 dispatch center notified surrounding jurisdictions. By the early hours of July 4, over 20 NPS law enforcement rangers, including the park’s special response team, were working to protect people and locate Fussner.

At approximately 8 a.m., law enforcement rangers posted near Canyon Lodge, which houses employee and public dining rooms, encountered Fussner. Fussner reportedly walked toward the service entrance of the facility while firing a semi-automatic rifle. The building was occupied by approximately 200 people at the time. Several law enforcement rangers engaged Fussner. During an exchange of gunfire, Fussner was shot by law enforcement rangers. In addition, one law enforcement ranger was shot in a lower extremity. Additional rangers with emergency medical training rendered aid to both the injured law enforcement ranger and Fussner. Fussner died at the scene. The injured law enforcement ranger was transported to an area hospital in stable condition and has since been released. No other physical injuries were reported.

Fussner was an employee of Xanterra Parks and Resorts, a private business authorized to operate in Yellowstone.

The FBI, with support from the NPS, Xanterra and other partners, is providing victim/witness support to anyone who was involved in the incident.

NPS policy for a law enforcement involved shooting calls for involved law enforcement rangers to be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation of the incident. Consistent with Department of the Interior and NPS policies, the NPS will release available body worn camera footage of the incident within 30 days.

"Thanks to the heroic actions of our law enforcement rangers, many lives were saved here last Thursday," said Superintendent Cam Sholly. "These rangers immediately confronted this shooter and took decisive action to ensure he was no longer a threat to public safety. We are working now to provide maximum support to those involved and their families. We appreciate the support of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Park Service, Department of the Interior, and many other partners as we continue to manage through the aftermath of this incident."
