We’ve got good ice and already some big fish are being caught. The 3BR Suite is ready for ice fishermen. Plus, we added a hot tub in the atrium. So nice after a cold day on the ice.

Hello all! I have had a wonderful summer full of great guests and families. Probably 75% of my guests have ties to the area and are up here for a family reunion, wedding or reunion. As I work to finish all the preparations for winter I’m also trying to find time to work on getting the word out about my campaign for Presque Isle township trustee. I’m also excited to announce I have added a four person hot tub in my atrium for my guests to use. I hope we have a cold winter with hard thick ice on the lake. I’ve also bought a pontoon boat that will be available to rent on a daily basis for my guests and others. There always seems to be someone asking if there’s one to rent on the lake and I’ll have to proper insurance and releases. Of course, this one is a project too and needs a lot of work but I like doing stuff like this and couldn’t afford a new fancy one. Here’s to everyone having a great fall season!

I’ve had a great summer here with great families and guests. And soon the addition of a hot tub! Just imagine hopping in that after a long day out ice fishing. Here’s hoping for thick safe ice this winter.

So a calm night with no wind and low temps means the lake froze completely last night! A very thin layer with some build up on the edges. So it was a good thing that with my friend Dale's help, I got the wire fence up along the lake today. I had put the fence posts in at least a month ago before the ground froze. Even though Valentine seems to know bad ice v. solid ice, I still don't want to lose her through the ice or allow her to use the frozen lake as her highway to the danger zone or to trespassing on the neighbor's property.

I’m sitting here down by the lake enjoying this gorgeous perfect last weekend of summer. Hopefully it won’t get too hot later. But right now, amazing! This summer has flown by! The best memories are the couples and families who came to stay with me. Two wedding parties, memorials, family reunions, gatherings for grandma’s 90th birthday. Almost all of my visitors have some connection to the area. I had two different couples, Americans of Indian descent who stayed at my place as a launching pad for a day trip to Mackinac Island. I love getting to see my place through fresh eyes. I love helping people experience the beauty of northern Michigan. It’s been a great summer!

Once again, I was told by a visiting family renting one of my cabins, that so many cabins that used to be summer rentals have been torn down and replaced with someone's permanent house. That is one reason I am so passionate about preserving and protecting my resort. Not everyone who loves Long Lake can buy a second summer home or move up here permanently, but EVERYONE deserves a chance to enjoy everything the area has to offer, if only for a few days or a week.

So two new things happened this week. I had my first wedding couple stay at the resort. They got married at a Lake Huron pavilion and stayed with me before and after. And an older couple who came with their dog Karlie, a rescue they've had for only about 6 weeks. They didn't know how Karlie would react to water. I never saw her actually swim but she went out and played and played in the water! She loved it and you could tell it was a new wonderful thing in her new life! To all my guests this week (especially Karlie), keep living your best life and enjoy every minute!

My fun afternoon. I rented a jack hammer and busted up an old slab and some dumped leftover cement in my courtyard. Dale even came out and gave me a hand. I’m beat!
