Holiday Shows at the East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium this month! A perfect & WARM family activity 🪐🎄🎅

December at EKSC! Come visit us Thursday-Saturday afternoons to experience our dual digital and optical-mechanical planetarium system, toe-tapping laser shows, and immersive exhibit hall!

Closures: We will be closed Thursday December 5 for yearly planetarium maintenance.
BSCTC campuses (including the science center) will be closed December 23rd through January 5th for Winter Break.

-Laser Night this month is Tuesday, December 17th featuring our Holiday Laser Show! All ages welcome, doors at 6:00 and show at 6:30, $5/person ever age 4.

Mystery of the Christmas Star: Journey back over 2000 years to Bethlehem as we seek to discover a scientific explanation for the star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus. This modern retelling of the Christmas story is sure to charm and captivate audiences of all ages.

LaseRock: If you ever find yourself in Suffragette City, Ramble On down to the station and hop onboard the Crazy Train! Space-faring guitars, distant worlds, and sneering skulls dominate this high-voltage journey through laser lights and music. From kinetic classics by Yes and Rush to ear shredders by Motörhead and Ozzy Osbourne, this show will keep your head pounding long after the music ends!
Laser Holidays: This popular program features a mix of everyone’s favorite holiday music, from the classical to the modern, all set to fantastic laser light. And since the show is low intensity, it is appropriate for family members of all ages. Laser Holidays is a fun experience for everyone and gives new meaning to the term “holiday lights” – holiday LASER lights!

-EKSC is open to the public Thursday-Saturday afternoons.
-Thursday & Friday we are open 1-4 (planetarium show @2, laser show @3)
-Saturday we are open 12-4 (live planetarium show @1, fulldome show @2, laser show @3)
-Tuesday and Wednesdays all day, and Thurs-Fri mornings are available for private bookings and school groups. Contact us for more details!

Sky Stuff:
-Planets: After sunset, look Southwest for Mercury peeking out low on the horizon, dazzling Venus in the South, Saturn in the Southeast for a few hours, and bright Jupiter in the Northeast visible for most of the night! A few hours later, Mars will rise in the East and will be visible until sunrise.
-Moon phases: New moon this month falls on the 1st, full moon on the 15th, followed by another new moon on the 30th.
