Last Day Birding Hike - Ranger-led Hike at Janes Island State Park in Crisfield. Tuesday December 31st at10 AM​​.
Meeting Location: ​Meet at the Camper Check-In parking lot and then caravan to Irish Grove
Distance: 2 miles

Description:
Start 2025 off by trying out a new hobby: Birding. Join Janes Island State Park Rangers and volunteers for a flat, two mile hike that will teach you the basics of birding. This hike will take place at Irish Grove, an approximately 2,300 acre nature preserve on the Pocomoke Sound that is owned by the Maryland Ornithological Society. We will meet in the Camper Check-In Parking Lot at Janes Island and then caravan to Irish Grove. (Approximately a 10-minute drive away.)

Additional Details:
Parking at Janes Island and Irish Grove is free. There are bathrooms at Janes Island and pit toilets at Irish Grove. Leashed pets are welcome but it is not stroller/wheelchair accesible. Please bring water, binoculars if you have them and appropriate footwear.

Join Ranger Brent and the Staff at Janes Island State Park for their First Day​ Sunset Hike, where you can take in the first incredible sunset of 2025!

No pre-registration required. Meet at the Janes Island State Park Nature Center at 4 p.m. for a one mile walk lasting about one hour.

The U.S. Travel Association joined Rep. Andy Harris, the Maryland Tourism Coalition, Visit Harford, Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and local leaders for a “Travel Works for America” Power Hour at the Economic Development Office in Cambridge, Maryland on Monday, December 16. The discussion focused on travel’s essential contributions to the region’s businesses, workforce and economy. Somerset County Recreation, Parks and Tourism Director Clint Sterling also participated.

Celebrate the Winter Solstice with a night of stargazing at Janes Island State Park this Saturday at 4:30pm.
The moon will be a waning gibbous and much will be visible to the naked eye and through the park's telescopes.
