We love it when our members work together to support one another! Sights Ink created different styles of shirts to help raise money for our local pet store that was destroyed by fire. The proceeds will go directly to Tanks Boek-el-Zoo. This will help them find a new location and to reopen! Fundraiser ends this Sunday!

Festival 56 postpones 2020 summer season.

Options being studied to still hold Camp 56.

β€œAfter long discussion over several possible scenarios, Producing Artistic Director Tommy Lafrate and the Festival 56 Board of Directors have decided that postponing the 2020 summer season to summer 2021 is the most responsible option for the health and safety of the Festival’s patrons, performers, staff and volunteers, as well as the wider community, in hopes that by next summer, public health concerns will once again support the type of live, professional theater provided by Festival 56.

Festival 56 has become an important part of the Princeton community, with the influx of young performers and visitors from out of town adding life and vibrancy to Princeton’s summer celebrations. In addition, a summer season in Princeton has been a launching pad for many theatrical careers, both onstage and offstage. As evidence, Festival 56 alumni have been offering videos with songs of hope and fond memories of time spent with host families on the Festival 56 page.

As Festival 56 counts down another year to when it can again open a summer season, the Board of Directors is looking for other ways to provide connection to the arts. They are studying options that would allow Camp 56, Festival 56’s theater camp for third-grade through high school, to take place at the end of the summer within health and safety guidelines.

A fall/winter season of music and other performances is also being outlined, for when restrictions will allow audiences to safely return to the Grace Theater, with additional measures taken for health safety.

For 17 years, Festival 56 has been part of the amazing mosaic that makes up Princeton's vibrant community. With the continued support of its patrons and sponsors, Festival 56 will continue to be part of the scene for years to come.”

Ideas on moving forward...

As we continue to move forward during this unsettling and challenging year, the city is doing our best to work with businesses throughout town in being creative with the restrictions placed upon us.

Our primary objective is to bring as many people to town as possible, to shop our stores, eat at our restaurants and enjoy a drink at our bars. Not everything we do, or don’t do, is accepted by everyone; but this isn’t the case even during the best of times. Today, though, is different.

It’s a delicate balancing act where compromise is needed; for everyone to work together for the common good of our community.

We have allowed wide latitude in helping restaurants and bars to set up outdoors. They are licensed through the state, as are other businesses, but restaurants and bars are places where people gather, and other businesses all benefit from their presence. We have talked with restaurants and bars about public parking lot use for tables and chairs, and allowing the use of tents to protect customers from the sun. We extended the payment of City liquor licenses to the end of June (they are due at the end of April) and we allowed curb side pick-up long before the state allowed it.

As we go forward you will see other instances of our commitment to bring people uptown and downtown. The Princeton Chamber has been posting promotional videos of businesses throughout town on social media. Another example is the limited allowance of food trucks associated with existing businesses. Food trucks bring people to Main Street and other areas of town who then patronize other businesses that they might not otherwise have visited.

We hope to see musicians set up in town in front of participating businesses who will provide music during business hours. We have received inquiries on whether this would be acceptable. We fully support all our business districts as a music venue for musicians who partner with participating businesses.

There are other ideas at work as well. It’s all designed to bring people out and to revitalize our town as we move into summer. Working together, compromising together and allowing the unusual to become usual is the key to sustainability.

Together... we will succeed!
