Aloha!!

Today's weather in Georgia is in the 40s. The weather, where our Cottage is, on the Big Island is 80s. I'm starting to get a bit antsy about this 'frigid' weather. The Big Island has at least 10 of the world's 13 or 14 climate zones! You can be sunbathing in 80s degree weather and drive 30 minutes to the cooler misty Waimea or drive to Kilauea to get the rain forest type of weather. Boy, I miss the Big Island. Time to plan our annual trip back home.

Have you thought of the Big Island lately?

Spring Break Special: $350/nt for March 6th to March 8th!

Today is the 76th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. 😒 Words can't express the sadness, the horror, and the losses. May the Lord have mercy. Thank you, veterans and our military men and women, again for protecting our country. God blesses! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŒˆπŸŒΊ

at Mauna Lani Bay and PSA for coral safe sunscreen. If you love to snorkle when you come to Hawaii, please consider wearing a rash guard instead of leaving your sunscreen in the ocean to blanket and then kill the coral reefs. Avoid the use of sunscreens with OXYBENZONE.

Aloha!

This is the beach just down the street from Our Aloha Aina in KaMiLo! I've not taken that walk around to the Lava Lava Beach Club but definitely look forward to when we go back! For me, this is the type of beach I love as tons of marine creatures can be seen and beautiful shells and corals can be found plus a few cats resting in the shade. 😊 This park is definitely worth a visit! 🌺

Have you been to the area around Holoholokai Beach Park near Puako? It’s a bit north of the Fairmont Orchid. You can get on a trail there that will take you north about a mile and south all the way to Lava Lava Beach Club. It’s a pretty morning walk and as we get closer to December, a great place for whale watching.

On this day and everyday, we thank you, veterans. Prayers for those families who supported, grieved, and celebrated the sacrificial acts of our veterans. May the Lord comfort you. πŸ™β€οΈπŸŒΊ

We are serving Fresh Lau Lau Bowls for $11, with your choice of two side dishes. For only $2 more, we add your choice of Poke.

Food for thought! πŸ€”

The earthquake and tsunami created the issue, but plastics allowed it to become a real problem.

A little progression of sunset at A Bay.

Aloha!

This is another hike we enjoyed! It is not too long of a hike and is just a sacred and beautiful land! We enjoyed stacking rocks by the black sand beach. I really don't know much about this land there as I saw some cows grazing to the far far right of the trail down in the distance. It was pure serenity! πŸ™πŸŒˆπŸŒΊβ€οΈ

Aloha!

We are doing a little exploring in the Holoholokai park which is right by KaMiLo and Mauna Lani Fairmont Orchid. It is awesome to see the marine animals in their natural habitat! We found hermit crabs, little tiny eels (I think), lots of fish .. etc. 😍🌺🌈

Have a piece of Our Aloha Aina!

Aloha!

A shooting star!! I saw a shooting star last night!!! Hubby loves star gazing. He'd drive to Mauna Kea to see the stars. I finally got to go with him, the first time, since we got married. Within 1 minute, we saw a shooting star! 😍 It was AWESOME. There were tons of stars shining ✨ in the sky. I've never seen the Milky Way either but I saw it last night. Very cool! Now, the temp was low 80s where our cottage is at sea level. Once we got up to Mauna Kea, the temp dropped down to 45, actually 'warm' for the elevation and being on Mauna Kea. I was shivering in my running shorts. Anyhoo...

🌺🌺🌺 Must do 🌺🌺🌺

Aloha!

Big working day for me today: inventory!! 😬😱 sheet sets, pillows, towels, and etc. Apparently sun block bleaches towels and we have beige and blue towels! Time to switch to cream towels!! Regardless, we donated quite a few towels and blankets to Good Will! We'd like our guests to be happy even with our towels! No sunblock bleached towels or dry and scratchy towels!

Mahalo!

Aloha!

There are a few beaches we visit: Hapuna, Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani beach club, and the Spencer Beach. So relaxing!!

09/15/2017

Aloha!

A few days ago at the Spencer Beach, daughter stepped on a sea urchin! Her heel received a few spines which I pulled out immediately. The poor thing was in so much pain. πŸ˜₯ I just happened to have a bottle of doTerra Essential oils mix which consisted of Melaleuca, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, filtered water, and coconut oil! I sprayed her heel, came home and soaked her foot in hot water first, and then soaked in diluted vinegar. Three days later (after a few more vinegar soakings), she's back to her usual self and today she went horseback riding. I think the Essential Oils helped a lot! So, if you're ever interested in learning how to use them, my friend Tamazeen Barber is one to talk to!!!!! 😊

I don't recommend things unless I've personally used and believe in it!!

Mahalo!

09/15/2017

Aloha!

Every year we come to the Big Island, I or daughter must do a little something horse related. Our absolute favorite is the Dahana Ranch. We've done their No Nose to Tail trail rides on their beautiful ranch to now the Dahana Lio (Horse) Keiki (kids) Camp! 9am to 2:30pm of pure horse joy. This is her birthday present! We absolutely love it there.

🌺Must do🌺

09/10/2017

Aloha!!

So apparently the State of Hawaii is increasing the Transient Accommodations Tax by 1% effective 1/1/2018! This increase will bring the tax rate from 9.25% to 10.25%!!! "The increased tax will be used to pay for the new rail line being constructed from Honolulu airport to Honolulu city center." What?! What?! So our guests have to pay for things they don't use on the Big Island. Hm... πŸ˜₯

Boy, if traveling to any islands on the Hawaii is on your mind for 2018 and later, book now to save that additional 1% of tax!

Sorry for the bad traveling news!

Mahalo

There is a koi pond at the Waikoloa resort in the Queen Market place. The kids and I have come a few times to feed the fish. But today, hubby came along and I was able to capture this! πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚πŸŒΊ

Aloha!

Here is my annual picture of Mr. D at his BBQ stand. He was our first stop of the day at Hilo before heading to the Kalapana lava flow. It was an eight mile round trip to see the lava flowing into sea. We saw mostly smoke/fumes which is still cool. Flash lights are must haves! Good shoes are necessary! No flip flops. There are bike rentals at the entrance. Many people do rent bikes while a good number of us hiked. Definitely a must visit place! 🌺

Aloha!

Warning: this video may cause headache! This is hubby driving on Saddle Road! It's like a roller coaster ride. The old Saddle Road has been modified since we first came to the Big Island back in 2007. Hubby still reminiscing the old days. 🌺

Aloha!

Dinner tonight is Panko chicken with seaweed salad and rice! Our bellies are full and getting ready for Kilauea again tomorrow! Stay tuned for more volcano pictures.
