The guys have been putting in work with the new Technium rod. The 10’6” 6-12lb has been a great addition to the driftboat arsenal. The power curve and tip flex make this a very versatile and capable steelhead float rod. Checkem out

It was a solid start to our steelhead season before the water ran out. Now that the water is down to an almost unfloatable level we will see how it affects the migration. The last time we saw the water at this level (185cfs) during November, was in 2007 but it was short lived. The current long range forecast doesn’t look great for sufficient amounts of precipitation. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention, we will see where that takes us.

The lake has finally started to settle down and we are getting into heart of stager season. The weather looks consistent for the next week so hopefully we will see the kings migrate near shore and up the river by late September.

We are seeing some big kings around lately. They have been moody and angry especially once they get up near the back of the boat. It’s definitely staging season as these fish slow down feeding and start heading closer to the streams and river they will ascend next month. If the lake season is any indication of what he river season will be we should be in great shape for a good run.

Bouncing back and forth between fishing out of Oswego and the Salmon River has been a lot of fun. Keeping both boat operational has been a bit of a challenge but I think most of the issues with the Tiara has been ironed out and the Hewes is pretty much bulletproof. It’s interesting to see how different the two areas fish even though they are only separated by twenty miles. You can certainly tell that some of these fish are already staging in front of the SR. I would bet we see a decent push of kings into the Salmon River by mid to late August.

It’s nice to have options. Mornings out of Oswego and evenings out of the Salmon River.

Well let’s see how this goes… it’s been three years since purchasing this sh*tty asset. The amount of time, money, and energy that has gone into this boat is staggering. With that being said I can’t thank Ralph Fox with Lake Ontario marine repair, and Gary Cornell at Cornell marina Inc. enough for working on this boat and getting it to where it is today.
Without these guys and guys like them I’m not sure what the boat owners on the eastern side of Lake Ontario would do. We are definitely in need of more guys like them.
The boat is currently rigged and almost ready for chartering. I’m keeping the Tiara at my slip in the Salmon River to get the hours on both the ZF transmissions and the new port side rebuild. The two new transmissions need 25 hours and the engine needs ten hours to get properly tuned. Once this is completed I will bring her to the port of Oswego at Wrights landing marina for the summer. The Hewes will stay at the Salmon River marina or on the trailer depending on where the best fishing is. I would personally prefer to stay at the Salmon River but the amount of fuel the Tiara takes to run out of that marina plus the price of fuel at the dock doesn’t make business sense. I’m not sure how any of this will play out but the next few months should be entertaining.

Jason, , Ricky, and Dustin came out this Memorial Day weekend to hunt some big lake trout and Lake O did not disappoint! We found some lakers in the twenty plus pound range with a lot of smaller ones mixed in. We also found a nice king and brown to add a little variety to the box.
The king fishing has dried up a little on the east end but there are still a few around. The bait is just starting to pile up out front so hopefully that will bring them back for the rest of the summer.
