“Today we hiked Machu Picchu! It was INCREDIBLE!
After hours uphill, the second half of the hike was much gentler. We eventually reached the Sun Gate, which is where you stand to see Machu Picchu the first time. It was breathtaking!” 🇵🇪⛰️

“We went to the Perito Moreno Glacier and walked on it with crampons attached to our feet. It was a wonderful chilly experience with once in a lifetime views. The thought process of being on the snow in July was amazing. 🥶❄️”

“1. First, using a Gypsum powder paste and a bamboo stick, designs are traced on to the rough cut plates of tile.
2. Second, the tile is cut to shape using a sharp pick and steel bar which leads into the third step: shaping. 3. The tile is held at an angle on a ceramic bar and chipped away to allow the mix of plaster and cement to break the tile into shapes.
4. The cut tiles are placed together in a square of steel bars and the mix is poured locking in the design forever.
🙌🏼 The tile craftsmen were true masters of their craft and shared their time, jokes and skills with all of us.”

“We spent the boat ride looking for aquatic life and saw dolphins 🐬 , turtles 🐢 and a humpback whale 🐋 . We followed lunch by diving and snorkeling 🤿 around an incredibly diverse coral reef.
We finished the day with two excellent presentations, one by Expert marine documentarian Kip Evans on his experience living underwater and the other by a local researcher on identifying species of fish!”

“We drove from Cusco to Pisac and on our way we stopped at Potato Park, which is a national park which holds over 1,372 types of potatoes. We were greeted by an indigenous Quechua community playing music and putting flowers on our heads. To kick things off we danced with them and then sat on sheep skins and ate, guess what…potatoes!” 🥔🇵🇪

🗣️ EN: Today we went on an excursion in the mountains of Cantabria. We started with a funicular that brought us near the top of the mountain. Much of this hike was downhill, where we were able to enjoy the beautiful views.

"We want to convey how remarkable the scenery around Las Tolas is. We’re on top of a mountain overlooking dense forests and striking green pastures. The Andes, covered in fog early in the morning, are truly a sight to behold. We’re in a beautiful place filled with special people, and we are truly grateful to be a part of this community."

A day in the life of Middle School Exploration Iceland, Group A: “We traveled to the basalt cliffs at Hnappavellir and rejoined our guides from yesterday’s glacier walk, this time to climb the cliff faces! 🧗‍♀️ We then went to Diamond Beach, spending a relaxing afternoon admiring the icebergs and occasional harbor seals 🦭 .”

"Then we all put on our wet suits and snorkels 🤿and jumped into the water. Floating on top of the water, we got to see 10-11 different manta rays. We learned that every manta has a unique spot pattern and got to see them as they did barrel rolls to catch the plankton building up under the boards. One of our most fun days yet!"🫧

“We saw the Palais du Louvre, le Musée d’Orsay, Notre Dame under her scaffolding, the smallest house in Paris, and the star of the show, the Eiffel Tower – this year with a set of Olympic rings proudly displayed on the front. What luck to be here in such a special year!”

“Early in the morning, the group biked over to a local beach to help the Youth Union clean up. We picked up countless bags of Styrofoam, plastic bottles, and trash. In the afternoon, we got to try our hand at making local delicacies like spring rolls (ram bap) and shrimp omelettes (banh xeo and banh can). They were delicious, and we got to spend even more time with the Vietnamese Youth Union!”

“Tarangire National Park was amazing. We spent 24 hours in the park with a full afternoon and morning driving around to spot animals. This morning was especially exciting, as the day began with a close up view of more than 30 elephants 🐘! Shortly thereafter, we came across five lionesses and two cubs 🦁. Around noon, we exited the park and drove to a Maasai village.”

Every year, around the beginning of June, Putney Vermont welcomes all our leaders to our headquarters for their Leader Orientation.
🙌🏼 It is a weekend full of training sessions, conferences, speakers, team work and preparation for our summer programs as well as music, laughter and games. 🫶🏼 We are in constant awe of the quality, charisma, passion and professionalism of our leaders and this year was no different.
✨We already know, it's going to be a great summer! ✨

Last summer, the Columbia Climate School hosted the 2023 cohort of the Columbia Climate School in the Green Mountains program. 🍃🌱⛰
The students participated in a two-week campus-based program to mobilize action, drive impact and effect change in response to our warming planet. 🌎 Students engaged with faculty and staff from the Columbia Climate School and learned about cutting-edge research and innovations in action.
