🚢 Travel Tip Tuesday!! TRAVEL INSURANCE Royal Caribbean announced yesterday that they are canceling their September 28th ICON of the Seas sailing due to unforeseen maintenance. This ship holds up to 5,000 passengers that now have to reconsider their plans. They can get a refund or reschedule. If they have travel insurance, and decide to reschedule-the policy will reimburse any extra cost. For those passengers that don’t have a policy and decide to not to receive a refund, they are now responsible for any new cost difference. This is our son, he’s 3, almost 4 in this video. At the time we were spending 4 days a week in Occupational and Speech therapy. He only had about 10 words he could speak, he was angry and frustrated to not be able to communicate. He would throw tantrums and hit his head on everything as a result. We were tired, afraid, and felt so isolated. My son had this amazing therapist that would come to our house twice a week. One day we were talking about how he (the therapist) would be out of town to go on a family vacation. I joked and said one day maybe far in the future, we would take out kids on vacation but no way right now. The therapist looked me dead in the eyes and said, you can take a vacation, there are several destinations that will work with kids like yours to make it possible. This is how we learned about accessible travel for the first time. With our therapist advice, we decided to go to Disney World and took advantage of their Disability Access Service (DAS). It was a game changer for our family and our son. This trip was magical in so many ways. It was still hard, there were meltdowns and tantrums. But we learned with planning and setting the right expectations that we could do it. Everytime I watch this video I tear up a bit, remembering how hard that stage of our life was. Now 9 years later, it’s my goal to help families like mine. We’ve learned so much in this journey with our kids and I want to pass on the knowledge we gathered.
