VFR CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT PLANNING

We will be hosting an interactive class to help pilots hone their skills for VFR cross country flights. This information will be useful for student pilots getting ready for cross country flights and VFR pilots of any experience level to update their skills before the busy summer flying season.

While technology helps us plan flights quicker, it also has some risks. Reviewing the basics will ensure we have a better understanding of the available information.
We will cover:
*The importance of weather including proper self briefing techniques using Foreflight and 1800wxbrief.
*Completing a Nav Log
*Planning the flight - fuel requirements, risk management, changes enroute, sectional charts, airspace, regulations, communications and filing a flight plan.
*Night flight considerations
*What to do when things don't go as planned.

As the year draws to a close, we take a look back at all the great moments we had this year! Thank you - our students, pilots, scenic flight customers and friends for making this possible with your continued loyalty and support.

We remember the hard work of our students this year: New ratings: Alex E. - Commercial; Jay J-Light Sport; Carson C-Private; Collin B.-Private; Johanna T-Private. 1st solo flights: Ben B; John L; Ian G.; Heather F.; Aiden G.; Dan K.; Todd M. and many students getting close to their solo as well as pursuing advanced ratings.

In addition, several FAA Safety Seminars were hosted including a First Responders course for local fire, EMS and police. Special thanks to Rich Air for use of their facilities. We also had the opportunity to work with Lake George TV and Warren County to introduce others to aviation.

We are proud of our own Jim Barrett for being awarded the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award by the FAA for many years of safe flying. However, the year was also bitter-sweet as CFI Jared Miglorie, moved on to the airlines after doing such a great job instructing with us.

We are all looking forward to 2025. We promise to continue to provide safe and well equipped aircraft, experienced professional flight instruction and to introduce visitors and locals alike to the beautiful scenery of our area! Wishing all a happy, healthy and safe New Year!

Congratulations Collin!

The Adirondack Aviators LLC wants to congratulate Collin Bryant for earning his FAA Private Pilot Certificate at Glenn's Falls Airport today. Collin trained for his certificate at Leaf Air with CFI Melodie Veile. Leaf Air has several Cessna aircraft for rent. Collin is now looking forward to flying with family and friends....

We have a great opportunity for anyone looking for a solid, fun to fly 172! For sale is our 1978 Cessna 172N, N3239E. This aircraft handles great, the result of the meticulous maintenance it has been given by a very experienced mechanic. This plane is ready to fly for new students or an IFR pilot!

Engine is a factory reman Air Plains 0-320-D2J which replaced the old H series engine. 2200 Hr TBO. Total time: 1435 since new. Tannis heater. Very strong running engine.

Interior was completely removed down to bare metal and replaced with new in 2021. No corrosion. Soundproofing installed. Garmin 355 IFR certified GPS with dual Garmin 275s (no more vacuum system!) make this a perfect IFR platform. New transponder. Txpr/Alt/Static IFR check due 10/31/2025.

Total time airframe: 14055. Maintained under 100 hr inspection and 50 hr oil changes. Annual completed July 2024. Paint is original.

Leaf Air will be holding a ground school to help students prepare for the FAA Knowledge Test for Private Pilot. This is more than just written test prep! We will cover all the topics related to the written plus provide real world examples and information.

Included: aerodynamics, aircraft systems, FARs, weather theory, reports and forecasts, airspace, cross country flight planning, aircraft performance and more. After completion of the two day course, the student will receive an endorsement to take the written test.
